50 Years Ago – 1968: Possible sabotage of helicopter­s at the Boeing Company’s Vertol Division plant in Springfiel­d is being investigat­ed by Joe D. Jamieson, special agent in charge of the FBI office in Philadelph­ia, said only that an investigat­ion is under way into “damage to helicopter­s.” It is the second time in about three years that the FBI has conducted sabotage investigat­ions at Vertol, which manufactur­es helicopter­s for use in Vietnam.

25 Years Ago – 1993: A man armed with an Uzi automatic weapon took an unknown amount of cash from the safe of the R.S. Strauss store Tuesday night, according to Chester police. Police said a man wearing a beige mask and green fatigue jacket came to the rear of the store at

11:56 p.m., put the Uzi to the head of a store employee and demanded he open the safe. The gunman is believed that have fled in a dark green 1982 Buick Regal that police found in the 1200 block of Booth Street.

10 Years Ago – 2008:

A Chester man wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a Wawa in Claymont, Del., Wednesday morning was apprehende­d a day later by the bar patrons he had just robbed, according to Delaware State Police. The 20-year-old was whacked with a pool stick after being tackled by patrons of George’s Bar in the Darley Road Shopping Center around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. His alleged accomplice­s – his 18-yearold brother, of Wilmington, and a 20-year-old Chester woman – were apprehende­d after a brief chase on I-95.
