Roman T. Minchak

-

Roman T. Minchak, of Aston, PA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at Bryn Mawr Hospital on November 11, 2018. He was 75 years old.

Born in Drohobich, Ukraine, Roman (who was also known to family and friends as Tommy) came to the United States in 1949 and after that was a lifelong resident of Pennsylvania, living in Aston for the past 40 years. Son of the late Eustachius and Leontyna Minchak (nee Wienckowska), he is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gloria Minchak (nee Krol), two sons, Michael (Thea) and Mark (Rebecca), five grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Madeline, Alexander and Zachary, two sisters, Daria Zielyk and Mary Boyko and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roman grew up in Chester, PA, where he attended St. James High School (class of 1960) and was a parishioner of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church where he sang in the choir. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965, where he was proud to have earned expert marksman achievements. Following his service, he graduated from the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology with a degree in Industrial Engineering and attended PMC/Widener University. He worked as an Engineering Technician in the Combustion Turbine Systems Division at Westinghouse Electric Corporation, in Lester and Concordville, PA, for twenty years, and later for another nineteen years in automotive sales, the last sixteen of which were at Weathers Dodge in Media, PA.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Roman enjoyed going on day trips, especially to the shore, watching sports, and playing cards and games with family and friends. He liked to spend time outdoors and was an avid fresh and saltwater fisherman. A natural entertainer, Roman could light up a room with a story, his piano playing or a good joke. He also liked to travel, and had visited all 50 U.S. states, and in recent years, toured many countries in Western Europe with his wife Gloria. But most of all, Roman enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports.

The family would like to welcome relatives and friends to a luncheon to celebrate Roman’s life, which will be held on Saturday, November 17 from 12-3pm at The Austin Room, 3729 Chichester Ave., Upper Chichester, PA 19061.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Roman’s memory to the National Stroke Association (www.stroke.org).
