VFW Post 7949: 1015 Saville Ave., Eddystone, holds hamburger Tuesday every Tuesday from noon-3 p.m. Cost is $3 for a hamburger. French fries and onion rings are available. Nov. 20, If you buy 5 of our half pound hand made burgers at $3 each you will get the 6th one free. Must be purchased at the same time. Turkey with all the fixings and desserts. Elf A Gathering: Dec. 19, 5-8:30 p.m. Milmont Fire House, 500 Belmont ave Milmont Park. Along with Santa in a horse drawn sleigh and live reindeer we will be setting a state record for the most “elfs” in one place. The idea is to bring back some traditional holiday event where the whole family can come out for some fun.
Upper Chichester Senior Citizens Club: meets on the first and third Thursdays of every month at 1 p.m. at the Community Services Building on Market Street in Linwood. This month’s meetings will be held on Nov. 1 and Nov. 15. Bingo is played after the meeting Nov. 15. All Upper Chichester residents 60 years of age and older are welcome to join. Refreshments will be served. Winter Coat Drive: Salon Desante, 1150 Baltimore Pike, Springfield, will be sponsoring a children’s winter coat drive to be distributed to the children in need through the Interboro elementary school district and the Darby Borough police department . We will be collecting coats until Dec. 8. If you donate a new boy or girls coat in sizes 7-14 , your name will be put in a drawing for a $100 gift card to our salon. Second prize drawing will be a product gift basket with all of your favorite Salon Desante products. Drawing will held on Dec. 10. A year-long celebration to honor the birth of James Barton (Mickey) Vernon. A display case especially designed for the museum will showcase memorabilia from the life and times of one of Delco’s most illustrious personalities.To commemorate his centennial year, the SLDC website is offering video clips and sports cards, a different one to be presented each month for the rest of the year. Called Celebrating a Life Well-Lived, the clips consist of a series of interview segments in which Mickey reminisces about his years in baseball. Many of the segments were filmed just nine days before his death on September 24, 2008. The residency invites area seniors to its Cafe at Park Row from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Reservations are required. Job Corps: is a program free to income eligible young people ages 17-24 with career training and education programs, including Certified Nurse Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, Culinary Arts, Emergency Medical Technician, Facilities Maintenance, and Pharmacy Technician. The program gives participants the opportunity to finish their high school education, gain hands-on experience with trained instructors, and start a real career or go to community college.
