Lannon’s double-double leads Cabrini to victory

There is no such thing as a sophomore slump for Cabrini’s Kate Lannon.

The Sun Valley grad is improving upon a stellar freshman season. Tuesday night, Lannon posted a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds to highlight the Cavaliers’ 73-64 victory over Rosemont.

Naomi Washington led all players with 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 68, NIAGARA 54 >> Buoyed by Alyssa Monaghan, a two-time Daily Times Player of the Year from Bonner & Prendergas­t, the Hawks snapped a three-game slide for their first victory of the season. Monaghan poured in a gamehigh 22 points, while Katie Mayock (Conestoga) and Kristalyn Baisden added 12 points apiece. Michala Clay (10 points, 10 rebounds) earned her first career double-double. WIDENER 75, NEUMANN 69 >> Four players scored in double figures to lead the Pride to their fifth consecutiv­e victory.

Nicole Barnes (Garnet Valley) registered her first career doubledoub­le. The freshman guard came off the bench to score 12 points and haul in 10 rebounds. She also led the team in steals with four.

Devan Rimmer registered team highs in points (14) and assists (seven) for Widener.

Despite a 35-point performanc­e from Nafisa Saunders, the Knights (4-1) dropped their first decision of the young season.

HAVERFORD 55, URSINUS 44 >> The Fords (4-0) continued their hot start to the season with a road win in their Centennial Conference debut. Macy Goldbach (Garnet Valley) registered double figures for the fourth straight game, scoring 12 points while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists. Megan Furch led all scorers with 15 points and snared seven rebounds. VILLANOVA 81, LA SALLE 68 >> With nine players cracking the scoresheet, the Wildcats (4-0) remained unbeaten in the early going. Showing the way was Kelly Jekot, who netted a game-high 19 points. Mary Gedaka (16 points) and Adrianna Hahn (15 points) followed close behind.

Bonner & Prendergas­t All-Delco Shalina Miller led the Explorers with 15 points.

WASHINGTON (MD.) 55, SWARTHMORE 51 >> The Garnet (1-3) cut what had been a 12-point deficit to one late in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t tie or go out in front. Kim Kockenmeis­ter and Elizabeth Stiles paced a balanced offensive attack for Swat with nine points apiece. Erin Cronin pitched in with eight points and 12 rebounds. IUP 77, CHEYNEY 41 >> The host Wolves failed to score more than nine points in each of the first three quarters and suffered their fourth consecutiv­e loss to begin the season.

Marlon Herring led the way in the defeat with 17 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Shania Sharper added eight points for the Wolves (0-4), who shot 30.4 percent

(14-for-46) from the field and were outworked on the glass, 40-25. MESSIAH 78, EASTERN 49 >> Nine players netted at least two points for a Messiah team that converted nearly

50 percent (33-for-66) on shots from the floor, including a 7-for-13 effort from beyond the arc. Viki Kneis had

11 points and eight boards in defeat for the Eagles. Naomi Harris and Brianna Young-Harris scored 10 apiece.

Men’s Basketball

Aaron Johnson-Chavis’ 16-point, 10-rebound output helped Neumann to a 95-52 trouncing of Valley Forge (0-5).

Raquan Brown-Johnson (four steals) and Mark Perry tossed in

15 points each for the Knights (43), who receiving scoring contributi­ons from 12 players. Jordan Collins had 12 points and Waheem Lowman added 10 to the winning effort. EASTERN 71, ALBRIGHT 59 >> Darius Washington was one of four Eagles to reach double digits in scoring for the Eagles. He paired 18 points with five assists. Victor Pena tossed in 17 points, while Austin Duncan and Michael Bowlers chipped in with

15 apiece in helping Eastern (3-1) win its home opener. PSU-BRANDYWINE 89, BRYN ATHYN

Isiah Cook paced all scorers with

22 points, including a 9-for-10 showing at the free-throw stripe. Dwayne Coleman coupled 10 rebounds with

13 points for his second doubledoub­le of the season, and Pat Gallagher (Marple Newtown) totaled

13 points, six rebounds and a teamhigh five assists.

DCCC 95, VALLEY FORGE MC 87 >> Justin Gans connected on 10 of 17 attempts from the field en route to a game-high 25 points for Delaware County, which shot 58.7 percent (38-for-67) and caused 31 turnovers. Isiah Samaniego poured in 17 points and Kader Dembele had 15 points and 10 boards. SWARTHMORE 83, WASHINGTON (MD.) 51 >> The Garnet (4-0) shot a crisp 50.9 percent (26-for-53) from the floor and 50 percent (11-for22) from long range. Zac O’Dell had a solid all-around night with

15 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and two blocks. Cam Wiley added

15 points and three helpers. SCRANTON 84, WIDENER 74 >> Four players scored in double figures, but it wasn’t enough for the Pride who fell on the road. Tyler Drews tallied 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. Pat Holden and Elijah Boyd each netted 14 points, while Jalen Howard chipped in with 10.

Widener (3-2) forced 23 turnovers, but the unbeaten Royals (43) made 53.6 percent of their field goal attempts.

URSINUS 84, HAVERFORD 74 >> Joe Scibelli (22 points, 10 rebounds) registered his fourth double-double in as many games in the losing effort for the Fords (2-2). Kahlil Garnes scored 16 points and Michael Wiper finished with a career-high 13 points.

The Fords are outrebound­ing opponents by 8.5 boards per game, the team’s highest margin since the 1976-77 campaign.
