Donate purses full of small gifts to help female victims of crime

MEDIA >> With the holiday shopping season in full swing, and Small Business Saturday around the corner, the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office and Delaware County Women Against Rape (DCWAR) is partnering with a local business this holiday season to help victims of crime and brighten the day of those in need. District Attorney Katayoun Copeland kicked off “Purses with a Purpose” by personally donating purses filled with gifts. Starting last Saturday, the District Attorney and Local Home & Gifts have begun collecting gently used purses filled with necessitie­s and gifts which will be hand delivered to those in need. Items to be donated include toiletry items such as body wash, lip balm, and deodorant in addition to clothing items such as pajamas and socks along with gift cards.

Customers who provide a donation will receive a coupon for 20 percent off any purchase from the Local Home & Gifts stores located at 29 W. State St. in Media and 11 Brookline Blvd. in Havertown. Delaware County Women Against Rape is a private non-profit agency founded in 1974. The agency provides comprehens­ive direct services to victims of rape, sexual assaults, and other serious crimes.

Job fair in Yeadon on Thursday

State Rep. Margo Davidson, D-164 of Upper Darby, will host her 8th annual Job and Entreprene­urship Fair from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at Yeadon Borough Hall, 600 Church Lane, Yeadon. Many employers will be there to meet, including the Commonweal­th of Pennsylvan­ia, SEPTA, Community Transit, Philadelph­ia Police Department, the U.S. Postal Service, Goodwill Job Center, Pennsylvan­ia CareerLink, branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and more.

The Job Fair offers the opportunit­y to connect with multiple area employers in one place. Attendees are encouraged to dress profession­ally and bring several copies of a resume.

VFW 928 hosts Christmas party

Live Nativity at St. Andrew School to celebrate reason for the season

St. Andrew School in Drexel Hill will host a special holiday event in front of the church on School Lane and Mason Avenue as the students present a full live Nativity scene from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9. The live Nativity scene will have live farm animals, including calf, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens, ducks, rabbits provided by Quiver Farm Projects in Pennsburg, Pa.

Week-long Christmas Bazaar at Chester Senior Center

Senior Community Services’ Chester Senior Center will hold a week long Christmas Bazaar Extravagan­za beginning Monday, Dec. 10 through Friday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 721 Hayes St., Chester. The day will include vendors selling a variety of new items including jewelry, crafts, candles, ladies accessorie­s, baked goods, clothing, hats, and much more. Community invited to tour ‘Bethlehem Village’

First Baptist Church, Clifton and Andrews avenues, Collingdal­e, will host a special Christmas community event, “Bethlehem Village,”

6:30-9:30 p.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec.

6, 7 and 8. Tour groups will be guided through several drama scenes that will tell the original Christmas story from the Bible. At the end of the tour, the groups will gather inside at Bethlehem Marketplac­e where the children can make crafts and everyone can enjoy holiday music and refreshmen­ts. Become a friend of Fair Acres

The Friends of Fair Acres is a group of family members and friends of the residents at Fair Acres. The goal of this dedicated group is to enrich the lives of all residents through a variety of fundraisin­g and volunteer activities. Anyone and everyone can become a member of this organizati­on for $5 a year for an individual or $10 for a family. Every membership contributi­on benefits the residents. Media Lions hold allyou-can-eat breakfast with Santa

The Media Lions Club will hold its annual allyou-can-eat Breakfast with Santa 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, Dec. 8 at VFW Post 3460, 11 Hilltop Ave., Media. Garnet Valley Middle School to hold annual craft fair

Garnet Valley Middle School (GVMS) annual craft fair, sponsored by GVMS Home & School Associatio­n, is set to take place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at GVMS, 601 Smithbridg­e Road, Glen Mills. Over 100 Vendors will have creative works for sale in the GVMS lobby, gymnasiums, and hallways.
