Rimmer enables Widener women to extend streak

Devan Rimmer scored 21 points to help Widener extended its winning streak to six games with an 8476 victory over Marywood Sunday.

The Pride is 6-0 to start a season for the first time in the NCAA era. The NCAA began sanctionin­g women’s basketball in 1981-82. Prior to that year the sport was governed by the AIAW.

Erin Phelan added a career-high 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Mackenzie McCracken also reached a career high with

10 points. Rimmer has been Widener’s leading scorer in each game.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 49, LOYOLA (MD.) 46 >> Cardinal O’Hara All-Delco Mary Sheehan hit a jumper with 3:37 left to give the Hawks a five-point cushion in the consolatio­n game of the 25th Hawk Classic. Bonner & Prendergas­t All-Delco Alyssa Monahan made a steal with four seconds remaining and dribbled out the clock to seal the victory.

Katie Mayock led the Hawks (2-4) with 15 points. Sheehan finished with eight points and Monaghan had five points, five rebounds and four assists.

MAINE 47, PENN 46 >> Tanesha Sutton’s layup with five seconds left lifted the Black Bears over the Quakers in the final game of the Navy Classic. It was the first time since 2013 that Penn lost a game in which it held its opponent below 50 points, a streak of 60 straight such wins.

Eleah Parker led the Quakers (4-2) with 17 points. Katie Kinum added 12 points and nine rebounds.

CENTRAL FLORIDA 71, VILLANOVA 56 >> The Knights closed the first half on a 9-3 run and started the second half with six straight points to knock off the Wildcats (32) in the second day of the UCF Thanksgivi­ng Classic.

Kelly Jekot reached double figures for the fifth straight game with a teamhigh 17 points. Adrianna Hahn (13 points) and Mary Gedaka (11) also scored in double digits for the Wildcats.

Alliya Butts put together another fine game with 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Mia Davis had her third double-double with 19 points and 11 boards.

Men’s Basketball

A 3-pointer from Cam Wiley and clutch freethrow shooting powered Swarthmore to an 82-77 victory over Arcadia.

Wiley hit a triple with 59 seconds left to break a 7474 deadlock. The Garnet (40) then hit 5 of 6 from the free throw line in the final

17 seconds to remain undefeated.

Sophomore Conor Harkins connected on 8 of

13 attempts from beyond the arc and scored a career-high 28 points. Wiley backed Harkins with 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Zac O’Dell added 16 points four rebounds and three assists, while Nate Shafer pitched in with 13 points and eight boards.
