O’Hara, Springfield students recognized for outstanding community service
SPRINGFIELD >> The Springfield Volunteer Memorial Fund, Inc. recently recognized students from the senior class of Springfield High School and Cardinal O’Hara High School who have performed exemplary volunteer service. Students who were honored from Springfield High School include Molly Joyce, Dylan Kerr, John Nguyen, Natalie Noce, Owen Sherbinko, and from Cardinal O’Hara High School are Christina Gioia, Julianna Kissinger, Jack McCarry, Martin Meenan and Julia Randazzo.
Dann Cuellar, news journalist at 6 ABC TV Philadelphia, presented certificates of recognition from the Springfield Volunteer Memorial Fund, Inc. to each student, after conducting an interview with the students, discussing their community service activities. Ten Springfield community service organizations are represented on the board of directors of the Springfield Volunteer Memorial Fund, Inc., a 501c3 charitable organization, which promotes volunteerism at an annual recognition of adult exemplary volunteers by placing their name and organization on a bronze plaque which is attached to a Memorial Wall located in the center of Springfield.
Polar Express and Santa at CCC event at O’Hara
Catholic Community Choir (CCC) will present a holiday event 5:30 -8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 at Cardinal O’Hara High School, Sproul Rd., Springfield. CCC will welcome Santa Claus in the lobby from 5:45- 7 p.m. and will show “The Polar Express” in the theater. The event is free and snacks, drinks and spirit wear will be for sale. Upper Darby Summer Stage Shooting Stars present Holiday Spectacular
The Upper Darby Summer Stage Shooting Stars will present their annual Holiday Spectacular 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 and and 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center, 601 N. Lansdowne Ave., Drexel Hill. Audiences will experience a musical showcase of song and dance performed to favorite holiday tunes.
Everyone in the family is invited to enjoy fast-paced, high energy production, chock-full of favorite holiday numbers performed by extremely talented teen singers and dancers, and complete with sparkling costumes, festive music, and a set decorated with Christmas trees, shiny-wrapped presents, and snow. The performers will share heartwarming holiday memories and a visit from Santa Claus.
Tickets for this production are affordable ranging from $10 to $14 and may be purchased at udpac.org or by calling the box office at 610-622-1189. Proceeds from ticket sales support the Shooting Stars outreach program, entertaining senior citizens throughout the region. The performance is approximately 90 minutes, including intermission. Community Action Agency honors Pa. Wounded Warriors
Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc. was recently honored with the Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc.’s (CAADC) Community Support Award at CAADC’s 39th annual meeting. Wounded Warriors has assisted CAADC with keeping Veterans stably housed through CAADC’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) initiative and other programs. Wounded Warriors was presented the award in recognition of their outstanding dedication and community support to the residents of Delaware County.
Free two-part seminar to teach how to cook on budget
Local residents looking to save money by following cost-conscious recipes to create mouthwatering alternatives to more expensive entrees are invited to attend a free two-part seminar, “Budget Meals in a Bag. The first part of the seminar will take place 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.
28 at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 307 Market St., Marcus Hook, and the second part will take place 1-2:30 Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the Chichester Library,
3374 Chichester Ave., #19, Upper Chichester.
Cooking demonstrations and informational workshops will be offered. Jenni Lee, a nutritionist, will share easy, budget-friendly and tasty meals along with tips on healthy eating. Two days of deer hunting to take place at Ridley Creek State Park
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will hold two days of regulated hunting for white-tailed deer on Thursday, Nov. 29 and Thursday, Dec. 6 at Ridley Creek State Park, Delaware County.
In an effort to increase the ecological diversity of the park, these hunts will be conducted for antlered and antlerless deer by permit only. To insure the safety of all park users, all of Ridley Creek State Park and a portion of Gradyville Road through the park will be closed to all activities on these dates. If you are a regular park visitor, please excuse this temporary inconvenience.
Safety zones, no-hunting areas, and park boundaries will be posted and strictly enforced. Park Rangers, Wildlife Conservation Officers, and Pennsylvania State Police will be stationed throughout the park during the hunts.
Hunters applied for permits and were selected by a random drawing. Successful applicants received complete packages of safety rules, procedures, and maps showing open-hunting areas. Immediately prior to the legal hunting time, participants attend a mandatory information and safety session conducted by DCNR state park staff and Pennsylvania Game Commission Wildlife Conservation Officers.
