Three from Delco charged with abuse at Devereux
WEST WHITELAND >> Five staff members at Devereux Kanner Center on Boot Road in West Whiteland – including three from Delaware County – have been arrested in connection with abuse of clients within the past few weeks.
Three staff members face assault and child endangerment charges, while two are charged with witnessing the crimes and failing to report it.
Arrested were Christina Borden, 27, of Yeadon; Monique Scott, 25, of Pomeroy, Chester County; Solgie Barbar, 38, of Upper Darby; Kimberly Dawkins, 32, of Lansdowne; and Jordan Brothers, 25, of Philadelphia.
Police allege the five, all employees at Devereux, abused both juveniles and adults.
On Sept. 30, police said that Borden threw a 16-yearold client to the ground and struck the girl with her knees a number of times. When the teen was finally able to get to her feet, Borden allegedly struck her, causing her to fall to the ground. Barbar and Scott witnessed the incident and failed to report it to authorities as required by law. The teen suffered a broken arm as a result of the assault.
Borden was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, endangering the welfare of children and failure to report or refer child abuse. Borden was arraigned by Judge John Bailey. She was remanded to the Chester County Prison after failing to post $25,000 cash bail.
Scott and Barbar were each charged with endangering the welfare of children and failure to report or refer child abuse. They were each arraigned by Judge John Bailey and released on an unsecured $25,000 bail.
Also on Sept. 30, police said Bordon allegedly struck three different clients – one adult and two juveniles – in the arm with a cell phone cord causing injuries. Police said Scott witnessed all three incidents and failed to report it as required by law.
Borden was charged with three additional counts of simple assault and harassment and two counts of endangering the welfare of children. She was arraigned and was remanded to the Chester County Prison after failing to post an additional $7,500 cash bail.
Scott was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of children and failure to report or refer child abuse. She was arraigned by Judge John Bailey and released on an unsecured $25,000 bail, on both sets of charges.
On Oct. 21, police said Brothers allegedly struck an 18-year-old client at the facility. He was charged with simple assault and harassment.
On Nov. 6, Dawkins allegedly struck a 17-year-old client, police said. She was charged with simple assault and harassment.
