Holiday musical ‘Elf, Jr.’ on stage Dec. 7-8 in Swarthmore
SWARTHMORE >> Young People’s Theatre Workshop will present the holiday musical Elf, Jr. on 7 p.m. Friday, Dec.
7 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec.
8 at the Swarthmore Rutledge School on College Avenue in Swarthmore. The talented cast is comprised of 55 students in grades
2 - 8. The script, based upon the New Line Cinema film written by David Berenbaum, with a book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, music by Matthew Sklar, and lyrics by Chad Beguelin, tells the story of Buddy the Elf and his quest to find his real dad among the skyscrapers of New York City.
The production is being directed by Darrin Peters with assistance from Lori Knickerbocker. Choreography for the show is being created by Darrin Peters with help from Marissa Perri and Tommy Bennett. Suzette Burgess is the music director while production details are being overseen by Claudia Carlsson, Lori Knickerbocker and Joe Southard. The Stage Manager for the show is Ryan Stone.

Live Nativity scene at Springfield Baptist Church
Springfield Baptist Church, 184 N. Norwinden Drive, Springfield will present its 17th annual Living Nativity with live actors and animals 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. The Living Nativity is held on the front lawn of the church where the community gathers to witness the Advent of Jesus Christ reenacted with readings from the Gospels.
Farm animals assist in recreating the manger scene where Jesus was born. The entire community is invited to experience the music, narration and wonder of the Christ Child, when the Nativity scene is acted out every 30 minutes beginning at 6:30 p.m. There is no cost for this event, and refreshments are served.

Veteran journalist to speak in Media and Broomall
A veteran journalist who once posed as a bomb-carrying terrorist and later turned down an offer from The Philadelphia Mafia to represent its Prisoner of the Year will speak 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Granite Run Estates in Media.
Ed Eisen will present A Reporter’s Front Row Seat to History, the story of his 52 years on the road as a journalist, broadcaster, author and now, at 82, a motivational speaker. He became the first person of the Jewish tradition to represent two Popes during the 41st International Eucharistic Congress held in Philadelphia in 1976.
A Reporter’s Front Row Seat will be offered again in Delaware County on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 1:30 p.m. , at The Hilltoppers meeting at Temple Shalom in Broomall.
Help to trim Swedish Christmas tree at Delco’s Swedish Cabin
The community is invited to celebrate the holidays Swedish Style at the Trim-A-Swedish-Christmas-Tree Party at the historic Swedish Cabin, 9 Creek Rd., Drexel Hill, 2-4 p.m. Sunday, December 2. Admission is free but donations are always appreciated.
The Friends of the Swedish Cabin will provide Swedish holiday food from their Julbord, beverages, decorations, and Swedish Christmas music. Attendees can help to decorate the Christmas tree, Julgran, with apples, heart baskets and straw ornaments, plus tour the cabin, shop for unusual gifts at the Butiken, and warm themselves by a roaring fire, while toasting marshmallows.
Upper Chi Library hosts trip to Mercer and Michener museums
Upper Chichester Library will sponsor a bus trip to the Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle and Michener Museum on Tuesday, Dec. 11. In the morning, participants can take a guided tour of The Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle, which is managed by the Buck County Historical Society. The museum pays tribute to Henry Chapman Mercer, noted archaeologist, antiquarian, artist and writer. In the afternoon, they can visit the James Michener Museum, named for the Pulitzer Prize–winning writer James Michener, a Doylestown resident
The bus will depart,
8:30am from Upper Chichester Township Municipal Parking lot, 8500 Furey Rd., Upper Chichester, and will return at approximately 4 p.m.
The cost of the trip is
$56/regular fair or $54/ seniors over 65 years. Everyone must pay in advance when making a reservation. The Price for the trip includes bus fair and two guided tours of the museums.
