Gormley’s MVP performance leads TCA to title
A 13-point edge at the end of one quarter could’ve set The Christian Academy up for a comfortable game Saturday. Even though Norfolk Christian had other ideas, Grace Gormley did enough to prevent the Crusaders from being disappointed.
Gormley scored a gamehigh 22 points, including
10 in the fourth quarter, as TCA battled back for a
38-32 win in the final of the Delco Christian Invitational tournament.
It’s the third straight year that TCA has won the tournament.
Gormley helped the Crusaders (2-0) to a 13-0 edge after one quarter, but Norfolk rallied to tie the game at
22-all late in the third quarter. Gormley had TCA’s only two points of that quarter to nudge them ahead, 24-22, after three, then scored 10 of TCA’s 14 points in the final eight minutes.
Gormley was named tournament MVP. Kiera Cryan, who scored four points, joined her on the all-tournament team.
Delco Christian fell to Atlantic Christian, 53-36, in the consolation game.
At the Media Tip-Off: STRATH HAVEN 52, ACADEMY PARK 42 >> Alisha Lewis scored 12 points to lead the Panthers to a second straight win. Faith Raymond added nine points for the Panthers. Lashay Jackson scored 21 points for AP. PENNCREST 53, SUN VALLEY 45 >> Kylie Chelo connected on 11 baskets to tally a game-high 26 points and lead the Lions. Megan Arndt chipped in 14 points, and Annalee Doyle was 9-for-10 from the line to score 11 points.
Abby Seasock led Sun Valley with 21 points.
At the Downingtown East Tip-Off: EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 50, DOWNINGTOWN EAST 44 >> Raeleen Keffer-Scharpf and Riley Cassidy scored
11 points each, and KefferScharpf added seven boards for the Churchwomen (2-2). NOTRE DAME 47, EASTON 27 >> Mandy McGurk led all scorers with 18 points, and Maggie Pina chipped in 14, but it was the Irish’s defense that did the job, blanking Easton in the third quarter and holding a 21-5 edge after halftime.
At the Phoenixville Tip-Off: PHOENIXVILLE 56, CHESTER
29>> Shay-Moni DeShields scored a team-best 11 points, and Monique Colbert paired three points with 12 rebounds, but Chester (0-2) fell.
OXFORD 35, INTERBORO 29 >> Madison Diehl and Riley Szatny tallied seven points apiece for the Bucs, who kept the game close but couldn’t quite get ahead.
At the Methacton Tip-Off: KENNETT 62, RIDLEY 54 >> Shannen Hinchey led Ridley with 13 points, and Lindsay Boyd scored 11 to land on the all-tournament team, but the Green Raiders (0-2) fell.
In nonleague action: PENN WOOD 43, MARTIN LUTHER KING 2 >> The Patriots flexed their defensive muscles by allowing single points in the each of the first two quarters and pitching a second-half shutout.
Ashley Cyrus led the offense with 16 points and five steals. Enaiya Price tallied seven points and seven rebounds, and Awa Dicko (four points, seven rebounds, five steals, four assists) did a little of everything.
UPPER DARBY 68, GLASGOW 26 >> Jasmine Forrester scored 12 of her 14 points in the first quarter as the Royals (1-0) leapt to a 27-6 lead after one frame. Forrester added six assists and five steals. Gabby Liberio tallied 14 points and six steals.
