Demir powers Drexel past UNC Wilmington

PHILADELPH­IA >> Alihan Demir had 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds to help Drexel beat UNC Wilmington

69-57 on Thursday night.

The Dragons (12-13, 6-6 Colonial Athletic Associatio­n) took the lead for good on Coletrane Washington’s 3-pointer with 9:53 left in the game. That sparked an 8-0 run to make it 5346 for Drexel. Three times, the Seahawks (8-17,

4-8) closed the gap to five, but Drexel pulled away for good with a 10-4 run in the final 3½ minutes.

DCCC 129, LUZERNE COUNTY CC 88 >> Justin Gans erupted for a game-high 35 points and eight assists as the Phantoms rolled over the Trailblaze­rs.

The Bonner & Prendergas­t graduate hit four

3-pointers for DCCC, which outscored Luzeerne,

72-43, in the second half. Ketquan Gatewood had a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds while Mike Mallon (Penncrest) had 17 points and Nick Simmons (Academy Park) added 16.

Women’s Basketball

Erin Cronin posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Elizabeth Stiles led the way with 16 points and five assists in leading Swarthmore College to a 74-54 win over Bryn Mawr.

Cronin and Stiles were two of seven players who scored at least seven points, including Karinna Papke with 10.

MUHLENBERG 44, HAVERFORD COLLEGE 40 >> Macy Goldbach (Garnet Valley) was the only starter in double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds, and Julianna Clark chipped in 14 points off the bench for the Fords (17-6, 13-5).
