CHESTER >> As police continue to investigate the shooting of an 18-year-old Boothwyn man Wednesday, the victim’s grandmother is pleading for anyone with information to come forward.

Anthony Vincent is listed in guarded condition in the intensive care unit at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, his grandmother, Gail Vincent of Delaware, said Friday. She said her grandson was shot multiple times in the back, and he’s since undergone two surgeries.

Based on what he told his grandmother, the victim acted heroically when he used his body to shield a female friend, a resident of Chester, when the shots rang out.

“He jumped in front of her,” Gail Vincent said. According to what Anthony told his grandmother, the two friends were walking when a car pulled up and four males began harassing them. When the males displayed firearms, Anthony reportedly said, “They’re not real,” Gail said.

Her grandson, lying wounded on the street, called the police, she said.

It was shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday that Chester police received a call to respond to the area of the

1300 block of West Seventh Street for a report of a shooting, according to a police release. Arriving officers found Anthony Vincent lying in the street with gunshot wounds to his back. Paramedics treated him at the scene and then transported him to Crozer.

The release states the victim was walking when an unknown vehicle pulled up, and four males got out and approached him.

“An unknown confrontation did take place and the victim began to run from the scene, heading west on West Seventh Street. While running, the victim was struck by gunfire,” the release states.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact city Detective Brian Pot at 610447-8431 or bpot302@chesterpolice.org.
