Villanova women can’t hold on against DePaul

Villanova had a twopoint lead on DePaul after one quarter and a fourpoint edge early in the second period.

The good times, though, did not last long.

The Blue Demons scored the last 16 points of the half to break the game open and cruise to a 93-70 victory over the Wildcats Friday night at McGrathPhi­llips Arena.

The 16-0 run gave DePaul a 50-33 lead at halftime that grew to 70-48 heading into the fourth quarter. Adrianna Hahn led Villanova (15-8, 6-6 Big East) with 17 points. Kelly Jekot (13), Mary Gedaka (12) and Jannah Tucker (11) also reached double figures for the Wildcats.

PENN 83, BROWN 43 >> Six players scored at least nine points to lead a balanced attack for the Quakers (143, 4-0 Ivy League).

Ashley Russell and Princess Aghavere led the way with 13 points apiece. Eleah Parker added 12 points, Emily Anderson 10 and Phoebe Sterba and Katie Kinum nine points each.

Men’s Basketball

Jeremiah Jenkins came up big at the end of regulation, and Eric Johnson was the hero in overtime as Penn State-Lehigh Valley topped Penn StateBrand­ywine, 80-76.

Jenkins hit two free throws with 27 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and Johnson’s 3-pointer with 29 seconds left in the extra session put Lehigh up for good.

Pat Gallagher (Marple Newtown) paced Brandywine with 24 points. Bryce Barrouk added 14 points and Josh Smith 13.
