Handy scores 48 points, tops 2,000

For a half, it looked like Logan Handy would have to wait until the District 1 Class A playoffs to join the

2,000-point club.

Then the senior guard from Chester Charter School for the Arts got hot.

Handy scored 36 of her 48 points in the second half to eclipse the 2,000-point mark and lead the Sabers to a 5929 nonleague girls basketball victory over Plumstead Christian Friday.

Handy came into the game needing 47 points for

2,000 and reached the milestone with a little over one minute to play. She scored

1,500 points in three seasons at Laurel High School in Delaware and 501 this season for CCSA for 2,001 points in her, according to Sabers coach DeJuana Mosley.

Ceyrah Williams added a triple double with 11 assists, 11 steals and 10 blocked shots.

In other nonleague action: INTERBORO 48, SUN VALLEY 44 >> Madison Diehl scored 15 points to lead the Bucs over the Vanguards.

Savannah Lewis had a season-high 15 points for the Vanguards. Abby Seasock added 13 points and Maya Morris was 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.

In the Inter-Ac League: PENN CHARTER 55, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 50 >> Raeleen Keffer-Sharpf scored 21 of her game-high 23 points in the second half, but it was not enough to help the Churchwome­n climb out of a 32-15 hole. Riley Cassidy pitched in with 10 points.

Boys Basketball

Nymire Little tallied 17 points and Archbishop Carroll overcame an eight-point, second-quarter deficit for a 48-47 Catholic League victory over St. Joseph’s Prep.

Tairi Ketner added 12 points and Amiri Stewart pitched in with 10. NEUMANN-GORETTI 81, CARDINAL O’HARA 54 >> The Saints bolted to a 23-7 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Christian Ings led four players in double figures with 20 points. Jordan Hall added 15.

Anthony Purnell (12 points), Adrian Irving (11) and Jameel Burton (10) showed the way for the Lions.

BISHOP MCDEVITT 55, BONNER & PRENDERGAS­T 50 >> Isaiah Wong tallied 16 of his gamehigh 23 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to erase a 36-25 third-period deficit. Tariq Ingraham added nine points for the Friars.
