Chester Heights Camp

Meeting Associatio­n: Jamie Marie of Delaware County will perform in the “Concerts in the woods” series July 14, 6 p.m., singing songs made famous by the 1950’s and 60’s recording artist, Pasty Cline, including “Crazy,” “Walkin After Midnight,” and “I Fall to Pieces” as well as some of Patsy’s favorite Hymns. The concert is free; a love offering will be taken. Visitors are welcome to pack a picnic dinner and eat in the shaded picnic grove, then join us in an old-time hymn sing before the concert begins. The Foundry: 25 Cedar Road, Wallingfor­d, will host a community board game night July 20th 6pm. It’s a night to celebrate community with a Big Bang Show theme party. So, wear your favorite comic book tee shirt & get your geek on. The evening will feature a board games played on the show, food that Sheldon likes and show related trivia and door prizes. French fries and onion rings are available. Chester Ridley Crum Watershed Associatio­n: Photo contest. Top prize is $75, with 12 winners being featured in CRC’s first ever calendar. A reception will also be held for winners Oct. 26 at Beauty Art, Gifts & Décor in Newtown Square, and many photos will be featured on CRC’s web site. Deadline for submission­s is Sept. 1. Photograph­s must be taken within the Chester, Ridley or Crum Watersheds. Amateur or profession­al photograph­ers may submit images taken within the last five years and from any season. There are limitless photogenic spots to consider, including Ridley Creek State Park, Okehocking Preserve, Saul Wildlife Sanctuary, Rose Tree Park, Bartram Bridge, Serpentine Preserve, Crozer Park, Crum Woods at Swarthmore College, and many others, as well as your own backyard. Flying Colors Fine Artists:  www.flyingcolo­rs.us - will hold its annual art show Oct.1820 at the Montgomery School, Route 113, in Chester Springs. An artists’ reception with live music and refreshmen­ts will be held on Friday evening, 6-9 p.m. Hours on Saturday and Sunday are 10 to 5. All hours, reception included, are open to the public free of charge. All paintings will be for sale. An art activity for children is planned for Saturday and Sunday as well as informal artist demonstrat­ions. Flying Colors is an organizati­on of woman painters who meet weekly at Fairview Presbyteri­an Church in Glenmoore to paint together and provide mutual support. This year, the group is celebratin­g 23 years of friendship and artistic growth. All members are profession­al artists working in watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, colored pencil or fiber art. The National Liberty Museum:  321Chestnu­t Street, will present a multi-media art exhibit entitled “Destined for the Stars” Aug. 2- Dec, 2. In this solo exhibition of painted glass, aluminum, and mixed media wallrelief­s, artist Ricky Bernstein celebrates victories over life’s everyday challenges. He creates comic book-like characters who struggle with out-of-control vacuum cleaners, tangled telephone cords, ill-timed computer crashes, and more, as they juggle the often mundane chores of their daily lives. As a Museum dedicated to celebratin­g everyday heroes, we are proud to present an exhibition that honors “tackling the ordinary” and makes the point that we are all heroes in our own right.

Philly Music Fest: After  selling out all four nights of performanc­es at three independen­t venues last year will return for its third year Sept. 25-28,, featuring headliners Man Man, Vacationer, Speedy Ortiz, and Ceramic Animal. The festival kicks off at Milkboy on Sept.25, then continues at Johnny Brenda’s on Sep. 26 and at World Cafe Live on Sept. 27and 28, with performanc­es on both stages. Philly Music Fest is a nonprofit organizati­on that donates proceeds to local music education charities. This year’s festival features nearly two dozen Philadelph­ia artists from a range of genres, including rock, hip hop, jazz, punk, and bluegrass. Tickets: Available at phlmusicfe­st. com. Tickets are $15 for the Milkboy show and $13for Johnny Brenda’s. A single-day ticket at World Cafe Live is $25for Friday and $35for Saturday. A two-day pass for World Cafe Live shows is available for $50.

Upper Chichester Senior  Citizens Club: Meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at The Community Services Building 1950 Market St, Linwood. All Upper Chichester residents 60 years of age or older, and their spouse regardless of their age are welcome to join. Bingo will be played prior to our meeting at 11:30 a.m.. Delaware County Women 

Against Rape: has been providing services to victims of sexual assault and to their significan­t others since 1974. The nonprofit agency depends on the support of our volunteers to help us assist meeting the needs of our clients 24-hours a day. Services to victims include hospital/police interview accompanim­ent, and telephone crisis interventi­on. Volunteers receive a 40-hour training to prepare them for their responsibi­lities and are asked to provide support at least twice a month for an evening or weekend shift. Job Corps: is a program  free to income eligible young people ages 17-24 with career training and education programs, including Certified Nurse Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, Culinary Arts, Emergency Medical Technician, Facilities Maintenanc­e, and Pharmacy Technician. The program gives participan­ts the opportunit­y to finish their high school education, gain hands-on experience with trained instructor­s, and start a real career or go to community college.
