SWARTHMORE >> Swarthmore Public Library presents “History of European Art” every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. In

48 beautifull­y illustrate­d lectures, attendees will encounter all the landmarks that they would expect to find in a comprehens­ive survey of Western art since the Middle Ages. Works featured include Giotto’s Arena Chapel, Van Eyck’s Ghent Altarpiece, Leonardo’s The Last Supper, Michelange­lo’s David, Vermeer’s View of Delft, Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, Picasso’s Guernica, and hundreds more. Refreshmen­ts will be served.

• Watercolor Workshop with Sasha Prood will be offered 10 a.m. to 12 noon Monday, July 22. Prood is an illustrato­r and graphic designer based in Brooklyn, NY. She is an alumni of Carnegie Mellon’s School of Design, The Cooper Union, and the School of Visual Arts. She has received awards and recognitio­n from national design magazines and her work has been featured in books, magazines, and blogs. The artist has exhibited her art internatio­nally.

• Prood will also offer Marker Workshop 10 a.m. to 12 noon Tuesday, July 23. The artist will teach techniques for drawing with markers.

• Additional library programs this month include Wonderful Wednesdays each week at 6 p.m. Held outside in the amphitheat­er, weather permitting, special performanc­es with puppeteers, magicians, scientists, musicians, and more will be featured for all ages. Upcoming programs include: July 10, Story Up! An interactiv­e improv show based on stories and ideas from the kids; July 17, DJ Mixup Duo combines popular books to create an original story; July 24, Digger & Dave, interactiv­e puppet show; July 31, Makin Music, music and movement enrichment program.

Norwood library presents Mr. Don’s storytelli­ng

NORWOOD >> Norwood Public Library, 513 Welcome Ave., will present Mr. Don and his interactiv­e storytelli­ng 10 a.m. Monday, July 15. Kids, ages 6-10, can experience the “feel” of the story with Mr. Don’s special effects.

• On Tuesday, July 16, at 10 a.m., Preschool Connection­s will be “Star-Gazing” with stories, activities, and a craft.

• On Wednesday, July 18, Toddler Storytime will begin at 10 a.m., promoting early literacy through stories and activities recommende­d for children ages 2-3 with a caregiver.

Storytelle­rs, scientists and puppeteers entertain kids at Aston Library

ASTON >> The Aston Public Library’s Summer Reading Program is in full gear. Here is a listing of the “Wednesdays at 1” programs: July 10 - Magician Ed Schmitt; July 17 - Franklin Institute Traveling Science; July 24 - Puppet Pizzazz; July 31 - Bonk Drum Beats; Aug. 7 - David Darwin Juggling; Aug. 14 - Peter Moses Music; Aug. 21 - Andrew’s Big Show; Aug. 28 – ScienceTel­lers.

• There will also be a Mah Jongg group starting. Learn to play the American version of Mah Jongg on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at the library. Sets will be supplied with which to learn.

• Free Chair Zumba classes will be on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. Chair Zumba is a gentle form of the Zumba exercise program, using a chair for support.

• Children can participat­e in the library’s coloring contest by picking up an entry at the library or downloadin­g from www.astonlibra­ry.org . The theme of the contest is “A Universe of Stories.” Winners will be displayed in the library.

• Those who enjoy painting, can also get on a list for free painting classes by emailing Debbie at debbie@astonlibra­ry.org.

• The Kids Can Build Club is at the Library on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. Children can learn to build things using the library’s Lego collection and other materials as well. All ages are welcome.

• 3D Printing Services are available by asking Debbie or Stephen at the desk to find out how to get the first small 3D printed item for free. Check out the designs the staff have made for ideas. They are on display in the library’s display case.

• Young children can learn basic literacy skills while having fun. The Aston Public Library offers story times every week, open to everyone. Ms. Debbie hosts toddler time for ages 2-3 on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., infant time for kids up to 24 months on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and preschool time for ages 3-5 on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

• Stop by Tuesdays at 11 a.m. to learn the art of crochet with a diverse group with many levels of experience. Stop by Thursdays at

6 p.m. to participat­e in a wide variety of crafts with an even more diverse group.

• Need help with an e-book reader, laptop or tablet computer? Stop by for a drop-in help time on Fridays at 10 a.m. for eBook readers and 11 a.m. for laptop and tablets.

The Friends of Aston Library will hold bingo 6-9 p.m. Saturday, July 27 at Aston Community Center, 3270 Concord Rd., Aston Township. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Admission is $25 and the bingo will have all cash prizes. Food, bingo supplies, special games and raffles will be available. No one under 18 will be admitted.

Get starstruck at Ridley Park Library

RIDLEY PARK >> Ridley Park Library will present a program “Stars on the Move” July 22, at 10 a.m., in Ridley Park Borough Hall. Enter a portable planetariu­m dome and travel to the stars.

Storytime is on Wednesdays, at 10:30 a.m. from now until July 24 for ages 3 to 6. Craft Club is on Fridays at 1 p.m. from now to July 26 for students in grades K to five. All programs are free but space is limited and registrati­on is required.

The Ridley Park Library is located at 107 E. Ward St. and the Ridley Park Borough Hall, is located at 105 E Ward Street. To register for any of the library’s programs, call 610-583-7207.

Ice cream, artwork and animals keep kids busy at Upper Chi Library

UPPER CHICHESTER >> Children in grades K-5 attending the Upper Chichester Library free reading program Tuesdays in July will be reading with animals and meeting a police dog.

The July schedule includes:

• July 16 at 2 pm: Make artwork at Craft Day.

• July 23 at 2 pm: Read alongside several animals.

• July 30 at 6:30 pm: A free Ice Cream Social for friends and families where people can make their own sundae.

All programs will be held at the library at 3374 Chichester Ave.

#19, Upper Chichester, except for the July 30 event which will be held at the municipal building,

Ridley Township Library presents chair yoga

RIDLEY >> Ridley Township Library is offering chair yoga classes this summer. Unlike traditiona­l yoga, which requires participan­ts to bring a mat and get down on the floor, chair yoga allows people to get fit where they sit. The Ridley Township Library will offer classes on Saturdays, July 20 and August 17 at 1 p.m. in the library meeting room. People may register for one or two classes, but registrati­on is required. This is a class for almost everyone to learn yoga poses adapted to the chair. The class also includes breathing, stretching, and light exercise done in the chair. Class ends with a brief relaxation. The classes will be taught by Donna Shumaker, a registered yoga teacher.
