Dunbar, UDHL earn Babe Ruth 13-year-old title
It took an extra game, but UDHL got the job done Monday.
Brandon Dunbar worked five solid innings and was the beneficiary of an eight-run fourth inning as UDHL downed BroomallNewtown, 10-4, in the District 1 Babe Ruth 13s title game.
Broomall-Newtown had won Sunday to force a second, winner-take-all game for the title.
Jimmy Coppock’s tworun double was the big blow in the fourth. Brandon Newman went 2-for-4, and he and Dylan Kraiza provided outstanding defense on the left side of the infield. Nick Fratangeli worked the final two innings for the save for UDHL, which heads to Mifflin County for the state tournament starting Thursday.
In Senior EDCO: MARPLE I 3, GARNET VALLEY2>> Dan Wood did it all, working a complete game on the mound and supplying the game-winning RBI in Game 1 of their best-of-3 Senior EDCO first-round playoff series.
The Tigers can close the series out at home in Game
2 Tuesday.
Wood scattered six hits and six strikeouts over the complete game. He singled home Sean Donnell in the top of the seventh to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead, and needed all that support as Garnet Valley strung together five straight hits in the bottom half before Wood slammed the door.
Justin White was just about as good, striking out four over six innings for the Valleymen. BRIARCLIFFE 3, FOLCROFT

Tim Durante went
2-for-3 with a run scored, Christian DiGalbo was
2-for-2 with two RBIs and Eric Bradley supplied stellar defense in center field. Briarcliffe can sweep the series with a win Tuesday at Collingdale Community Center.
In the Delco League: WAYNE 8, UPPER DARBY

Dom Picone got the win with five three-hit innings, striking out eight. Kevin Mohollen went 3-for-5, and Ed Paparella added two hits and two RBIs.
Max Anastasio homered for Upper Darby.
ASTON VALLEY 8, MIDDLETOWN 1 >> Dan Hyatt struck out nine over five dominant innings, allowing just one hit and no runs. Hakim Salaam backed him with three hits, including two doubles.
MARPLE 1, CHESTER 0 >> Eddie Gallagher outdueled Glen Stanners on the mound, tossing a completegame two-hitter with three strikeouts for Marple. Stanners wasn’t far behind, striking out three and allowing four hits. But Tom Carey’s groundout scored Adam Fine with what proved to be the only run.
Softball
Art Mann drove in four runs, Deron Miller added three RBIs and Deron Miller plated two as The Union downed J.T. Brewski’s, 15-0, in Game 1 of the best-of-3 Penn-Del Over 50 League playoffs.
Derek Stukes was winning pitcher.
