Rivera sends Aston-Middletown to championsh­ip round

Jayden Rivera fanned 13 as Aston-Middletown advanced to the championsh­ip game of the Little League Section 8 11U tournament with a 6-0 win over Lower Perkiomen on Saturday.

Rivera allowed only three hits over 5.1 innings of work. A-M scored all of its runs in the sixth inning. Will Stanton delivered the big blow, a two-run double, after Liam Wray knocked in the game’s first run with a bunt single.

Babe Ruth 14s

Chris McGorkle’s bunt single keyed UDHL’s four-run rally in the sixth inning, leading to a 6-3 win over Altoona in the state tournament. UDHL is 2-0 in pool play competitio­n.

Justin Shepherd doubled, scored a run and made a spectacula­r running catch in center field. Chris Zupito collected three RBIs and Kevin McGongle knocked in two runs. Max Franzini was 2-for-3.

UDHL continues pool play Sunday against Mifflin County.

Babe Ruth 15s

Christian Kagel slugged a pair of home runs and drove in six runs as Broomall-Newtown topped Lackawana, 15-5, in pool play. Kagel’s second homer traveled 400 feet and ended the game on the 10-run rule.

UDHL 13, ALTOONA 10 >>James Sousa, Vinny Perrieta and Danny Sullivan each delivered two-run singles in the eighth inning to lead in the pool play round of the state tournament Friday night. Dom Picone scattered five hits and struck out seven in 6.1 innings to help Wayne take Game 1 of a doublehead­er with Aston Valley, 2-1.

Tim Edwards registered the final two outs for the save. Kevin Mohollon doubled and drove in a run, while Matt Briner was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Dan Williams chipped in with two hits.

In the nightcap, Wayne used a six-run outburst in the top of the sixth inning to pull away for an 11-4 victory. Ed Paparella went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, two walks and three RBIs. Luke Mutz was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Mike Raimo went 2-for-2 and Sean Mohollen added two hits and two ribbies. Rob Brown pitched six innings, allowing three runs (none earned) with six strikeouts to get the win. MARPLE NEWTOWN 6-3, SPRINGFIEL­D 2-11 >> Danny Kelleher tossed a complete game with four RBIs to lead MN to victory in Game 1. Corey Woodcock was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Tim Hopper laced an RBI triple for Springfiel­d.

In the nightcap, John Gorgone had a single, two RBIs and two runs scored to support the pitching of Payton DeMaio, who went six innings and struck out two. Dan McMenamin finished 3-for-4 and Luke Piontek added two hits to go with two runs scored and one RBI. UPPER DARBY 11-6, MIDDLETOWN 2-2 >> Ben Mutz went the distance with six strikeouts while giving up no earned runs in Game 1. Joe Suppa led the offense, going 3-for-3 with two walks and three RBIs. Christian Strickland had a four-hit, three-RBI game.

In Game 2, Brian Pazulski hurled a complete game with six punchouts. Nick Wright was 3-for-4 with an RBI, Suppa added two knocks, and Dylan Every contribute­d an RBI double.

CONCORD 4-1, CHESTER 1-6 >> No details from Game 1 were reported to the Daily Times. In Game 2, Alex Barker and Steven Wells both homered to pace Chester. Tommy Wells doubled and drove in two runs. Glen Stanners recorded nine strikeouts in five innings to pick up the win.

Main Line Senior Legion

Brendan McGroary threw a complete game and Christian Mingioni collected four singles and two RBIs in the Concord Canes’ 6-1 losersbrac­ket victory over Wayne.

Mingioni’s RBI single in the third inning put the Canes ahead to stay. Joe Bonini notched two base knocks in defeat for Wayne.
