Other Times
100 Years Ago – 1919: Most interesting discoveries have been made in removing the modern floor in the Old Court House, which is being restored to its original state by Gov. William C. Sproul. One of the most interesting “finds” under the old floor were two old animal skeletons, about 18inches long, lying beside each other. The skill of one would indicate an animal similar to the house cat, but the other remains a “what-is-it?”
75 Years Ago – 1944: Ellwood J. Turner, Chester attorney and member of the Pennsylvania Legislature, was unanimously re-elected chairman of the Interstate Commission on the Delaware River Basin at the annual meeting being held at Hershey. Spreading on the record a dark picture of the filthy condition of the Delaware, with its “stench that is almost nauseating,” delegates to the meeting heard Philadelphia and Camden real estate interests accused of balking attempts to have proper sewage disposal plants constructed by the two cities.

25 Years Ago – 1994: In a caucus session yesterday, Chester City Council announced they would pass a resolution today granting a Camden-based developer exclusive rights to 15acres of property in Crozer Park for the construction of a multiplex movie theater. Following a conveyance of land, the developers will then conduct an analysis of the site, including an examination by the Army Corp of Engineers because the proposed location, by 14th and Kerlin, is on a flood plain. Besides the movie screens, the plan might include an eatery and a small retail outlet, said Gregory H. Wheeler, president of Cam-Bir-Wheel Development Corp.
10 Years Ago – 2009: Acme Markets managers and the leaders of the 4,000 unionized employees who work at 40 Acme supermarkets, pulled an allnighter Monday, negotiating for close to
20hours in an effort to come up with a contract both sides could agree on. After meeting 39times over an 18-month period, Acme put forth its last, best and final offer June 9. The union overwhelmingly rejected the offer during a vote at the Spectrum June 24.
