Abrams paces Middletown to another win

Middletown is picking up steam as the Delco League regular season winds down.

Andrew Abrams went the distance as the Lions won for the sixth time in 11 games in a 5-2 weather-shortened victory over Aston Valley Wednesday night.

Abrams allowed two hits and struck out four in five innings. Marc Cruiser went 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Dylan Bittle and Scott Kelley (double) knocked in a run each.

WAYNE 8, MARPLE NEWTOWN 5 >> Kevin Molhollen’s three-run homer was the big blow in a sixrun outburst for Wayne in the bottom of the fourth inning. The game was stopped by rain in the fifth inning and the score reverted back to the last completed inning.

Mohollen’s blast gave Wayne a 7-5 lead. Rob Paller and Brady Schlack drove in two runs each for Wayne.

Tom Cockill got the win. Chris Anderson was 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs for the Black Sox.

NARBERTH 7, CHESTER 1 >> Joe Ravert knocked in two runs, and Kevin McGowan, Steve DeBarberie and Steve Furman added two hits each in the weather-shortened win for the Mudcats.

McGowan was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. DeBarberie also had one RBI and one run scored. Tommy Toal added two runs scored and one RBI. CONCORD 5, SPRINGFIEL­D 4 >> Joe Poduslenko slugged a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to to cap a three-run rally that lifted the Canes over the Colonials.

Trailing 4-2, Chris Salvey smacked a solo homer to get Concord within a run. After Frank Saviski singled, Poduslenko went deep to put the Canes in front. The win clinched a playoff berth for Concord.

Nate Sides got the win in relief. In the Intermedia­te EDCO semifinals:

CLIFTON 6, BROOMALL-NEWTOWN 4>> John Pecko drove in two runs in the seventh inning and stole home to give Clifton a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series.

In the Babe Ruth 13U tournament: state BROOMALL-NEWTOWN 10, MIFFLIN COUNTY 3 >> Broomall-Newtown scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning and four in the bottom of the fourth to advance to the championsh­ip game against UDHL.

Because of heavy rain forecast in Williamspo­rt, the championsh­ip game has been moved to Thomas Field on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Justin Brennan drove in three runs and scored once. Johnny Small and Alex Bruno both had two hits, one RBI and one run scored.

In Cal Ripken 9U Southeast PA tournament:

SPRINGFIEL­D 4, HILLTOP 1 >> Springfiel­d topped Hilltop for the third time this year to claim the title and earn a trip to the Middle Atlantic Regionals in Hamilton N.J.

Jack Coleman went the distance to help Springfiel­d finish 6-0 in the tournament. Springfiel­d scored a pair of unearned runs in the second inning and put the game away with two more runs in the top of the sixth. Johnny Hopkins went 3-for-3 with one run scored, and Sebastian Simone was 2-for-3 with one run scored for Springfiel­d.

Softball

Jerry Montella went yard as Boss Automotive downed United, 14-3, to sweep the best-of-3 semifinal series.

Larry Riggs, Lynn Thompson, Mike Dalesio, Tom Daley, Bill Auve, Tom Tidball, Joe Kelleher and Ken Weiler chipped in with two hits each.
