Holcomb offers announces free FASD grieving training
Holcomb Behavioral Health Systems announced its upcoming educational FASD training, “Loss and Grieving: An Ongoing Process for Persons with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD),” to take place 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon Thursday, September 5 at the Delaware County Intermediate Unit in Morton. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The training is being offered at no cost to attendees, thanks to funding from the Delaware County Office of Behavioral Health, Division of Drug & Alcohol.
Grieving does not occur only after the death of a loved one. Rather, some level of grieving follows any loss. For individuals with FASD, their families, and treatment providers, losses occur frequently throughout life. This training focuses on these losses and examines the behavioral manifestations of the response to loss.
Without an accurate recognition of loss issues, behaviors are often viewed as disruptive, and interventions are frequently less than optimal. Suggestions for identifying and processing these losses to allow people to move forward will be highlighted. The presentation also examines issues that those with FASD experience transitioning from adolescence to adulthood and how they may exacerbate losses if not handled properly.
For more information on this training or to register, visit: https://tinyurl.com/ FASD2019.
The training is coordinated by Holcomb Behavioral Health Systems and funded by the Delaware County Office of Behavioral Health, Division of Drug and Alcohol.
