Community Transit seeks donations of used vehicles, running or not
EDDYSTONE >> Local residents may think their unused vehicle is nothing more than a “junk car,” but when donated to Community Transit of Delaware County, it can be a lifeline to people without transportation.
Community Transit’s car donation program offers a simple alternative to selling or trading in an unwanted vehicle. Community Transit of Delaware County will spare people the hassle of selling their unwanted vehicle or spending the money to have it towed to a junk yard.
In return for the car donation, donors receive the maximum possible tax deduction, even if the vehicle is not running. There is absolutely no cost to the donor, even if the car needs to be towed. Best of all, each vehicle donation helps provide much needed transportation to members of the local community, enabling them to get to vital appointments such as dialysis, chemotherapy, radiation and more.
The donor program provides free pick-up of vehicles, whether they run or not, and handles all paper work. According to Community Transit, the process is simple and quick. Donations can be scheduled for when it’s most convenient for the donor. Cars, boats, RVs, Campers and ATV’s are all accepted.
Contact Tom White at 610-490-3977 ext. 2121 or at twhite@ctdelco.org to get the process started.

Free educational classes offered to learn about Medicare options
For a senior or adult making health care decisions for their parents, Medicare options may be confusing. Medicare is comprised of a combination of programs administered by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid programs (CMS) together with private insurance. While CMS administers Part A (hospital) and Part B (doctors, diagnostic tests, outpatient services), private insurance administers Medigap, Medicare Advantage, and prescription drug plans under contract to CMS.
In order to help seniors understand the various parts and the two main ways to fashion a health care plan, Caise Benefits located in Aston, does community outreach to seniors with a one-hour educational class titled Taking the Mystery Out of Medicare.
Nick Paolo, a state-licensed benefits consultant at the firm, said the class provides a global view of the Medicare landscape with a description of each component and how to group them into a health care plan that meets each individual’s needs. There’s a discussion of how and when to buy or swap Original Medicare, Medigap, Advantage, or Prescription drug plans as well as practical tips on saving money and advice on avoiding reimbursement pitfalls. The class is educational only and no products or services will be offered. Also note that CMS rules do not permit discussion of specific companies, plans, or premiums.
These free educational classes are being presented at local independent living facilities, including Granite Farms Estates, Plush Mills, and Residences at Glen Riddle, as well as public libraries in Delaware, Chester, and Philadelphia counties.
To see all the class locations in Southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware, visit www.caisebenefits.com/ events/.
Starting September 3, Caise Benefits will host free classes at their office location each Tuesday until the start of Medicare Annual Enrollment (October 15-December 7). Any organization may request a free educational class at their location by calling 610-494-827.
