100 Years Ago – 1919:
With all the city and county precinct returns tabulated, the unofficial figures show a victory for the Delaware County Republican League at the primary on Tuesday in the organization’s inaugural activity. The league won a sweeping victory in the county offices and more evenly fought results in the city. Unofficial figures of the 34city precincts showed a majority of 79 votes for the McClure candidate for mayor, William T. Ramsey, over league candidate, incumbent W.S. McDowell. That the difference in the returns is only 79 is one of the most remarkable happenings in local politics.
75 Years Ago – 1944:
In an hour’s meeting with the Registration Commission this morning, William K. Rhodes, attorney for the Delaware County Democratic Organization, questioned the legality of summoning registrants to Media for questioning regarding their length of residence in the county and their qualifications for voting. He said that they should have been challenged by the clerks when they made their original registration.
50 Years Ago – 1969:

presented Commissioner Marvin Smith Lamont Darby a check Jacobs Township for $1,000 for the marching unit he leads. Smith has worked with different drill teams for high school and middle school marching events for eight years “”to get kids to stay out of trouble,’’ he said. The marching unit will participate in state and local championships this year. The check was obtained through a legislative grant.
10 Years Ago – 2009:
More than 25friends and family members and a caravan of vehicles were on hand in Norwood to welcome Pennsylvania Army National Guard Spc. John McVeigh Jr. home from Iraq Thursday night. McVeigh, 22, had been stationed at Camp Taji for full spectrum combat operations after his Stryker Brigade Combat Team was deployed in January; Cheers erupted late Thursday afternoon in Aston when Army National Guard Spc. Damon Sweigart, 34, returned home after serving a nine-month tour of duty in Taji, Iraq. A member of the Army’s
111th Infantry Regiment, 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Sweigart was first met in Phoenixville by his wife, Krista, and daughters, Rebecca, Emma and Hannah.
