Ridley ed foundation announces grants to enhance learning experiences not covered in district budget
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP >> The Ridley Education Foundation presented a total of
$29,641 in grants and renewal grants at the recent Ridley School Board meeting. Foundation President and school board Vice President Beverly Kapanjie, along with foundation vice president Linda Hosbach, handed out the awards that help to cover the costs associated with special programs not covered in the school district budget. The foundation raises its own money through a series of events. In addition to the grants, the foundation provides $250 scholarships each to four high school students.

Rep. Quinn and Sen. Killion host public forum on open primaries
State Rep. Chris Quinn,
R-168 of Edgmont, state Sen. Tom Killion, R-9 of Middletown, Penn State Brandywine Center for Ethics and Civic Engagement, and the Open Primaries Pa. coalition will host a public forum on open primaries and electoral reform 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Penn State Brandywine, Room
113 of the Main Building, 25 Yearsley Mill Road, Middletown. Quinn and Killion will discuss open primaries legislation currently in the General Assembly, which would allow unaffiliated voters to participate in either the Democratic or Republican primary election, and why this issue matters for Pennsylvanians.
Jeremy Gruber, senior vice president of open primaries, will follow with a presentation of primary election types and reforms from across the country. A panel discussion featuring nonprofit leaders and subject matter experts will conclude the program. Other participants are Steve Masters, Business for America; David Thornburgh, Committee of Seventy; and Stephen Bouikidis, Independent Pennsylvanians.
The event is free and open to the public. Open Primaries PA is a growing coalition of civic and business organizations committed to open and free elections in Pennsylvania that lead to responsive and accountable government. Free job search support class offered at DCCC
Those who want to explore their strengths and interests to discover their career path can attend Delaware County Community College’s free New Choices Career Development program to gain the knowledge and skills needed to determine a career path, find a job and achieve personal goals.
For more than 36 years, New Choices has provided individual and group support, career assessment and planning, employer contacts, networking opportunities, resume writing, interviewing techniques and a computer refresher course, with the aim of helping students find a successful career and a fresh start.
The next four-week session will be held at Delaware County Community College, 901 South Media Line Road, Marple on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from Oct. 29 to Nov. 21.

Senior Community Services’ Chester Senior Center will hold a Breast Cancer Awareness Day 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct.

Guests and members can learn about the latest in cancer research and treatment, visit with health care professionals to ask questions, take an exercise or dance class, participate in lively game of Quizzo, hear live testimonials from cancer survivors, enjoy music, pink treats and fellowship.

Krueger to host veterans lunch Oct. 25
State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-161 of Nether Providence, invites local veterans and their family members to a free Veterans Lunch, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the American Legion Hall Post 926,
3220 Concord Road, Aston. Information on state and local resources for veterans will be available, and a light lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. The Pennsylvania Mobile Veterans Outreach Van will be on site to help accredited veterans and family members access needed benefits such as disability, health care, pension, education, career assistance and more.

Public invited to do holiday shopping at GVMS craft fair
The Garnet Valley Middle School Home and School Association will hold its annual Craft Fair 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at the school, 601 Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills. Over 100 vendors will have creative works for sale in the GVMS lobby, gymnasiums, and hallways. Unique items for sale will include jewelry, toys, flowers, wreaths, soaps, candles, quilts, leather goods, clothing and much more. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
