GOP chief stunned at actions, backing of Dems
When the 2019 County Council campaign started, not once did I think protecting pedophiles would be a pivotal issue in the campaign.
Call me naïve but I thought something that all people can agree upon, regardless of their political party registration, is that pedophiles are bad.
The evidence is clear that Democrat County Council candidates Monica Taylor, Elaine Schaefer and Christine Reuther have a very diïerent view of pedophilia than most of us.
Over the weekend, I was stunned to learn that Democrats Taylor, Schaefer and Reuther proudly accepted the endorsement of an organization that harbors a convicted pedophile on their board of directors.
Never in my life did I ever think something like that could happen in Delaware County, a place where we put our families first. The last thing I would ever do is take justice reform advice from a person who sexually assaulted two 13-year-old boys, one of them right here in Delaware County. This isn’t politics; this is just plain decency. Yet the Democrats are willing to take this person’s endorsement and advice on how to make prison a better place for the prisoners, but I bet you they wouldn’t leave their 13-year-old-sons or grandsons with this pervert.
What’s worseïElaine Schaefer voted to keep an admitted child pornographer, Phil Ahr, as the face of her township. How is that not a 6-0 voteïThe township manager, who had the same information Elaine Schaefer had, erased Ahr’s information from the township website the day after Ahr admitted to possessing this incredibly vile material. I guess in Elaine Schafer’s mind “time wasn’t up” for Phil Ahr. Schaefer only wants to talk about what she did after Ahr’s arrest but the issue is that she, and the other two commissioners who supported this monster at his sentencing, voted to keep him as board president before his arrest and after he admitted to possessing child pornography. What in the world would possess them to do thatï
Not only do these Democrats accept the endorsement of pedophiles, they vote to keep them in public office. Is this really what we want for Delaware CountyïReform of the criminal justice system is needed and should take place, but with a focus on victims. These developments are simply stunning.
Most disappointing about all of this is that the leadership of the Delaware County FOP was potentially misled into endorsing these alleged pedophile-protecting politicians for county council. I have heard from many of the police officers who are appalled at this endorsement. Well, we are as well!
Delaware County Republican candidates back our police. Our party understands that following the law and preserving order are essential to keeping families safe and growing our economy.
Police, and their families, make sacrifices unbearable for most. There are few jobs that I know of where there is an explicit understanding that your daily kiss goodbye to your spouse could be your last.
Delaware County Republicans will always back our police. Period.
The Leadership of the Delaware County FOP should take a hard look at their decision to back these extreme Democrats.
Backing candidates who back pedophiles and take law enforcement advice from them is not a position supported by the selfless and hardworking police officers across Delaware County. The endorsement made by their leadership should be rescinded immediately.
