You can now rock a Ridley license plate

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP >> Members of the Ridley Educational Foundation are hoping they have found the perfect Christmas gift for people to give Ridley High School graduates—an official Pennsylvania license plate featuring the Ridley School District’s distinctive “Rocking R” logo.

And buying the specialty license plate will help to fund programs and projects for Ridley students through grants provided to teachers by the volunteer REF.

The new license plate was on display at a recent Ridley School Board meeting. Ridley School Board Vice President Beverly Kapanjie , who is president of the REF, noted that the license plate is offered through PennDOT’s Special Organization Program. The program allows approved groups to promote their organization with a distinctive registration plate. According to a release from the REF, Ridley School District appears to be the first school district to pursue the opportunity. Anyone residing in the school district or a graduate residing in the state may access an application for their vehicle on the school district website at www.ridleysd.org.

The REF receives a $17 donation from the sale of the plates.

Here is the fee schedule for a Ridley School District Specialty Plate: $27, PennDOT issuance fee; $6 for a PennDOT processing fee; $17 donation to the REF to support programs, for a total of $50. Consecutive plate numbers are assigned by PennDOT.

The fee for a Ridley School District personalized specialty plate is $158. Here is a breakdown of that cost: PennDOT issuance fee, $27; PennDOT Plate processing fee, $6; donation to the REF, $17; PennDOT Personalized license plate fee,

$108. A personalized plate number must be approve by PennDOT.

When the completed application fee for the type of plate ordered is received by the REF, the organization will submit payment directly to PennDOT. Personalized license plates are subject to PennDOT approval on a first-come, first-served basis. Checks should be made payable to Ridley Educational Foundation. Applications and checks should not be sent to PennDOT, the agency will not accept the applications. Send applications and checks to The Ridley Educational Foundation, 901 Morton Ave., Suite

100, Folsom, Pa. 19033, ATTN: Beverly Kapanjie.

The REF awards competitive grants to school staff to support new innovative projects that promote student achievement. The REF also supports programs throughout the district such as the high school Welcome Walk, Middle School Transition Camp, elementary running clubs and the Ridley Permanent Scholarship Fund. The REF is a non-profit
