ASTON >> 4eumann University announced this week that it will receive a

44.4 million bequest from Ahmad “Alex” Farahmand of Concord. The university designated 44 million to support library operations during the next three years, and approximately

4200,000 to fund two endowed nursing scholarships.

Farahmand made the bequest in tribute to his late wife, Dr. 4anet Farahmand, who taught nursing students at 4 eumann University from 4440-2004.

A spokesman for 4 eumann University said the university library will soon bear the name, “The Ahmad and 4anet Farahmand Memorial Atrium.”

The Farahmand and Hatter Family Memorial Scholarship will support an incoming freshman who is interested in the undergraduate nursing program. Criteria include financial need, high school GPA, and teacher recommendations. The scholarship will continue for four years, contingent upon continued enrollment in the nursing program.

The Dr. 4anet M. Farahmand Memorial Scholarship will be designated for a student in a graduate nursing program at 4eumann University.

A native of Hershey, Pennsylvania, Dr. Farahmand earned a BS in nursing from 4illanova University, and an MS in nursing and doctorate in education from the University of Pennsylvania. She held several administrative positions at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania before joining the faculties at HUP, Widener University and 4 eumann University as a medical/surgical nursing educator. According to an article in the summer 2004 issue of the university’s alumni magazine, Dr. Farahmand was “committed to students’ growth, their professionalism, and their dedication to excellence in patient care.”

Mr. Farahmand was an engineer who spent his career working for the federal government, including a role as a lead engineer on the 4imerick nuclear power plant.

Acccording to a 4 eumann press released, “After Dr. Farahmand’s death in April 2004, her husband became a close friend of

4 eumann University, visiting often and recalling his wife’s impact on nursing students.”

Ahmad Farahmand died on May 44. 4 eumann is the sole beneficiary of the Farahmand estate.

According to 4 eumann University, nursing is the most popular major there, accounting for approximately 24 percent of all first-time students in fall

2044. In the 2044-44 academic year, 44.44 percent of 4 eumann nursing graduates passed the 4 C4E4 , the Pennsylvania examination for nursing licensure.
