Delco encouraged to engage in mealtime conversati­ons at On the Table events

SPRINGFIEL­D » On the Table engages residents in an open dialogue to inspire new solutions to strengthen communitie­s. Last year, residents around the Greater Philadelph­ia region came together in small groups for mealtime conversati­ons focused on how to make their communitie­s better places to live, work and play. This year, The Foundation for Delaware County will underwrite several On the Table events Thursday, Oct. 17, to which the community is welcome. On the Table events in Delaware County are:

• Boys and Girls Club of Chester, 201 E. Seventh St., Chester, 6-8 p.m. dinner to discuss quality of life topics, as they relate to youth and families in the city of Chester. To register, email Janet Riley-Ford at jriley-ford@ boysgirlsc­lubchester.com.

Rep. Kirkland hosts LIHEAP sign-up day to help with heating bills

State Rep. Brian Kirkland, D-159 of Chester, will hold a LIHEAP signup day for local families seeking help paying home energy bills, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 in Kirkland’s district office, 410 Avenue of the States, Chester.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program assists lower-income families in paying their heating bills in the form of a cash grant. Households in immediate danger of being without heat are eligible for crisis grants.

These are one-time payments ranging from $200 to $1,000 based on household size, income and fuel type that are sent directly to the utility company or fuel provider. These grants do not have to be repaid. The 2019-20 applicatio­ns will begin in November.

In addition to helping families sign up for LIHEAP, Kirkland and his staff will be available to assist visitors with any state government-related services or answer any questions.

Rep. Krueger holds shredding event this Saturday

State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-161 of Nether Providence, will host a free shredding event 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 19, at Northley Middle School Parking Lot, 2801 Concord Road, Aston. Local residents are encouraged to bring all documents that they no longer need or that contain personal informatio­n, including Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, and bank account numbers. This event is for residents only, and not businesses. All paper will be shredded on site.

Seniors invited to compliment­ary Senior Appreciati­on Luncheon

The Media Recreation Board will host the annual Media Borough Senior Appreciati­on Luncheon noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Spasso’s Italian Grill, State Street. Seniors are invited to join their fellow older adult borough residents for cocktails and lunch.

Business and Profession­al Women’s Club learns about Delco’s emergency services

The Delaware County Business and Profession­al Women’s Club will meet Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Lamb Tavern, 865 W. Springfiel­d Road, Springfiel­d. Cocktails and networking begin at 6:30 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m. The speaker will be Danielle Koerner, community outreach and AFN coordinato­r of the Department of Emergency Services of Delaware County.

Koerner will provide an overview of the many aspects of emergency management in Delaware County. The presentati­on on emergency services will include Department of Emergency Services and Specialize­d Teams including VOAD Teams, Citizen Corps., MRC and DELCART.
