Frigerio, Xie boost Radnor to third-place district finish

Radnor’s second doubles pairing for Grace Frigerio and Mia Xie claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory to lead the Raiders past Harriton, 3-2, in the third-place match of the District 1 Class 3A tournament.

Bridget Dougherty prevailed in straight sets at second singes, as did Lucy Hederick at third. The win books Radnor a date against the District 11 champion in next Tuesday’s first round at a site and time TBD determined. Both Radnor and Harriton will represent District 1 in the PIAA team tournament.

In the Inter-Ac League: EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 4, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 3 » EA won three of the four doubles matches and pushed the other to the max to clinch the Inter-Ac title.

Eliza Aldridge and Cara Harty prevailed at first doubles. Caroline Burt and Natalie Johnston got the win at second doubles. And Madison Hanssens and Georgie Crockett triumphed at third doubles, each winning in straight sets. The lone singles point for EA (12-2, 6-0) came via Ashley Kennedy at first.

Boys Water Polo

Ryan LaRocca scored six goals to go with two assists and six steals as Haverford School romped past rival Episcopal Academy, 21-10.

Bram Shork (three goals, three assists), David Gobora (three goals) and Jack Deppen (two goals, three assists) also had big days on the offensive end, while Koby Degenhardt turned aside eight shots in goal to go with two assists for the Fords (20-1).

Boys Soccer

Matt Bowes scored twice, including one of two tallies in the final minute to embellish the final score line in a 4-0 win for Garnet Valley over Penncrest.

Timmy Comers and Keith Cressman also scored for the Jags, who got eight saves from Chase Woolard.

Ethan Birch, Jake Hooper, Tim Wright and Nick Dignazio also scored for Haven. RADNOR 4, UPPER DARBY 0 » Charlie Bernicker scored a goal and an assist as the Raiders struck three times in the first half and stayed in control. Jackson Birtwistle, Danny Rosenblum and Peter Vitale also scored for Radnor.

In the Inter-Ac League: EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 1, HAVERFORD SCHOOL 0 » Jackson Tuma tucked home a feed from Josh Levinson in the final minute of a cagey affair to make a winner of the Churchmen. Trevor Manion put EA (4-5-4, 2-3) in position to win with six saves.

Will Boyes stopped four shots for the Fords.

In the Bicentenni­al League: DOCK MENNONITE 1, DELCO CHRISTIAN 0 » Josiah Bronkema made 12 saves, but Ben German’s goal made a winner of Dock.

Volleyball

Notre Dame’s Maddie Donaphon notched her 1,000th career dig as Notre Dame swept past Baldwin, 3-0.

Katie Herrington and Amelia Swan combined for 11 kills as the Irish (11-3, 5-1 Inter-Ac) won by game scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-18.

Also in the Inter-Ac League: GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 3, AGNES IRWIN 2 » Gold Mehl paired five kills with five aces, and Colby Yoh added five kills as the Owls pushed league-leading GA to the bring in a 15-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-27, 16-14 marathon.

In the Catholic League: BONNER-PRENDERGAS­T 3, HALLAHAN 0 » Good things came in fours for Lindsey Fagan, who tallied four aces, four kills and four assists in a 25-20, 25-22, 25-7 win. Kelly Eisenhart added four aces, Sam Lachette tucked away five kills and Gianna DiAngelo and Abby Lance had seven digs each for the Pandas (8-8, 6-5). CARDINAL O’HARA 3, CONWELLEGA­N 0 » Emma Travetti assembled four kills, three aces and three digs, and Erin Kane added five kills and three digs as O’Hara (21-1, 11-0) waltzed to the regular-season Catholic League crown, 25-9, 25-10, 259. Bella Frattarola added six assists and an ace.
