Quakes sign all-time goals leader Wondolowski to one-year deal
SAN JOSE >> The San Jose Earthquakes have signed Major League Soccer all-time leading scorer Chris Wondolowski to a one-year contract.
The team announced the deal to bring Wondolowski back next season on Tuesday. He scored 15 goals in 2019, breaking the MLS record for a career.
Wondolowski, 36, says he’s excited to come back for another season and says he will remain part of the Earthquakes organization when he retires.
Wondolowski owns nearly every scoring record in MLS history, including most career goals (159), goals for one club (155), gamewinning goals (44) and consecutive seasons with at least 10 goals (10).
Seattle’s Morris named MLS comeback player of year
NEW YORK >> Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris has been voted the MLS comeback player of the year after scoring 10 goals in his return from a major knee injury that cost him the entire 2018 season.
Morris finished with 28.23% of the vote, beating out fellow finalists Mark-Anthony Kaye (24.5 of Los Angeles FC and Union striker Kacper Przybylko (8.36%).
Morris suffered a torn ACL in his right knee just before the start of the 2018 season during a CONCACAF Champions League match in Honduras. Rather than rush him back, the Sounders kept Morris sidelined all last year in the hopes he would return healthy and be able to contribute this season.
After a sluggish start, Morris was outstanding in helping Seattle finish second in the Western Conference in the regular season.
