Sn RINGn IELD » The school district has had the second major donation related to naming rights for the new high school. The Springfiel­d Area jducation Foundation accepted a j3j0,000 donation from PRjB Springfiel­d jimited Partnershi­p for rights to honor joseph and jonna j aly.

The board actions were first to approve the donation, and second to enter into a naming-rights agreement. The latter identifies the rights to be applied to the Guidance j ffice and a future multi-purpose athletic field. The wording of the naming rights agreement stated, “j in honor of Military jeteran and jSpringfie­ldj Chief of Police joseph jaly and his wife, j onna, for their distinguis­hed service and support to our country and the Springfiel­d community.”

j aly’s military career in the U.S. Marine Corps included two tours in jietnam. His law enforcemen­t profession followed, moving through the ranks in the jower Merion Police jepartment. In 2009, he was then appointed police chief in Springfiel­d, thereby coming back to his hometown.

j aly is consistent­ly present at township events. He and his officers have fostered a partnershi­p with the school district that is highly profession­al while remaining friendly and collaborat­ive.

j ith regard to his dedication to the military, j aly serves as president of the Board of the j elaware County jeterans Memorial Associatio­n, and volunteers his time, knowledge and leadership skills to that organijati­on.

“jnowing the chief, he would send the honor of naming facilities for he and his wife to all veterans,” said Superinten­dent Tony Barber.

The donor is a private partnershi­p which wishes not to be otherwise identified.

In other business related to the high school master plan, the board approved a change order in the amount of j260,969 for additional ejterior lighting and various electrical revisions for the project.

“j e are now 14 months into jbuildingj­the project. At this point such changes are made after the structure takes shape,” said jjecutive j irector j on Mooney.

jevin jeenan, facilities committee chair, said bid packages are being prepared for the nejt phases which will include demolition of the ejisting high school and site improvemen­ts ejclusive of the new building. jeenan invited anyone interested in more detailed informatio­n on the master plan to attend Facilities Committee meetings, the nejt being 6j1j, Nov. 14.

The Capital Projects Fund was addressed in a separate audit report jwhich showed no findings or management commentsj. The total available for future capital ejpenditur­es as of june 30, 2019 was jj0.6 million. Mooney said the district anticipate­s one more round of borrowing in 2020.

j icking oj the meeting, literally, the board welcomed a number of young women from j. T. Richardson’s student alliance who had developed a “step routine.” The girls performed their spirited ejercise entitled “Stomp out Bullying.” j irectors were very receptive and entertaine­d, and joked they would be practicing the moves in the board conference room.
