Schreiber’s late goal ends Delco Christian’s season
Thomas Schreiber’s goal with 17 seconds left in the second half propelled Dock Mennonite to a 2-1 victory over Delco Christian for the District 1 Class A boys soccer championship Wednesday night at Central Bucks West High School.
The district title is the Pioneers’ since 2009.
DC tallied the game’s first goal early in the second half. Michah Metricardi scored on a breakaway to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage.
Two minutes later, Dock pulled even thanks to a header by Braden Landis.
Delco Christian (11-10) advanced to the final by eliminating three-time defending district champion Faith Christian in the semifinal round. Dock (16-4) earned a berth to the PIAA tournament, which begins next week.
In the Tri-County League final:
JACK M. BARRACK HEBREW 6, PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 0 >> Ethan Wilner registered a hat trick, while Jordan Naim had a pair of tallies and an assist to lift the Cougars to the league crown. Hayden Ufberg made four saves in goal for the shutout.
Volleyball
Academy of Notre Dame clinched its ninth consecutive appearance to the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools Athletic Association final with a
3-0 victory over Agnes Irwin. Grace Guerin (seven blocks), Sara McDougall and Riley Shaak combined for
22 kills for the Irish. On defense, Maddie Donaphon and Ciara Hibbs totaled 32 digs.
Notre Dame (17-3) will play Inter-Ac League rival Germantown Academy for the championship Friday at 4 p.m. at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. The Irish have won seven straight PAISAA titles.
In other other PAISAA semifinal: GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 3, ACADEMY OF NEW CHURCH 0 >> Caitlyn Priore posted 33 assists, five digs, one dig and one block to lead the Patriots (17-1). Natalie Schildt chipped in with 22 kills, while Fiona McKenna added seven kills, five digs and nine digs.
GA and Notre Dame split their regular season series at a win apiece.
