‘Frustrated’ Mayfield storms away from interview

-

BEREA, OHIO >> Baker Mayfield’s frustration finally boiled over. The losing is beating him. Annoyed with a reporter’s line of questioning about a drive at the end of the first half in last week’s loss at New England, the Browns fiery quarterback abruptly ended his weekly interview session on Wednesday and stormed off.

Mayfield, who is tied for the NFL lead with 12 interceptions, grew increasingly agitated when a reporter asked him about a failed two-minute drive in a 27-13 loss to the Patriots.

“Was I happy with the drive? No, we didn’t score points,” Mayfield chirped.

“That’s the dumbest question you could ask. What?” Mayfield then disgustedly walked away from the lectern and toward his locker.

Zimmer: ‘I’m very, very ticked off’

EAGAN, MINN. >> The mood for coach Mike Zimmer turned sour when he learned of the late-night arrest of one of his players, Jayron Kearse.

The backup free safety and special teams captain was charged on Tuesday with drunken driving and carrying a gun without a permit, after he was stopped by a state trooper while traveling on a closed section of Interstate 94 in Minneapolis early Sunday.

“I’m very, very ticked off,” Zimmer said.

Kearse apologized for his actions while speaking on Monday to reporters.

Redskins: Williams failed physical

ASHBURN, VA. >> Standout left tackle Trent Williams is back at the Washington Redskins’ practice facility, but there’s no certainty that he’ll play at all this season.

Williams didn’t practice Wednesday, less than 24 hours after reporting following a lengthy holdout. Interim coach Bill Callahan said the 31-year-old failed his physical and couldn’t practice because of discomfort with his helmet.

“All I know is the helmet wasn’t comfortable, little discomfort in there,” Callahan said.
