Media Theatre presents ‘Elf The Musical’ this holiday season

“Elf: The Musical” is coming to the Media Theatre Nov. 13-Jan. 12. Based on the cherished 2003 New Line Cinema hit, Elf features songs by Tony Award nominees, Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, with a book by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin.

This modern-day holiday classic is designed to make everyone embrace their “inner elf.”

At The Media Theatre, the role of Buddy The Elf will be played by Chicago resident Josh Houghton. This is his Media debut. Christian Ryan directs and choreograp­hs. Ben Kapilow is resident music director. The production stars Krissy Fraelich, Bob Stineman, Aidan Crane, Alex Hamel, Kelly Briggs, Megan McDevitt, Emily Derrick, and Ryane Nicole Studivant.

The Ensemble consists of Alyssa Arcangeli, Dante Brattelli, Gabrielle Impriano, Hannah Mehl, Roger Ricker, Jacob Schrimpf, Angel Sigala, Andy Spinosi, and Grace Szczepkows­ki.

The Youth Ensemble is Ace Cullen, Saajan Lakhani, Alexander Palomba, Kai Quimbo, Sadie Wynne, and Ryan Zebley.

Delco Institute of Science presents ‘Notable Women’ lecture on Nov. 11

The Delaware County Institute of Science, 11 Veterans Square, Media, will host a free lecture, “Notable Local Women of the 19th and Early 20th Centuries,” 7:308:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11.

Widener Professor Kathy Hornberger will discuss “The Legacy of Phebe and Matilda.” This lecture will discuss the first two DCIS women members Phebe Goodwin and Matilda Cummins, naturalist Graceanna Lewis, teacher Harriet Gault, philanthro­pist Sarah Pennock Miller; medical doctors Anna Broomall and Florence Kraker, DCIS officers Henrietta Broomall and Carlota Matienzo, and scholars Edith Hall Dolan, Mary Butler Lewis and Mary Cathryne Park. Everyone is welcome.

Garden Club of Springfiel­d offers floral design program

The public is invited to join the Garden Club of Springfiel­d 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 for their annual Floral Design Program. Rebecca Mulholland of RAM Floral will present “Designs inspired by Nature” at the Springfiel­d Township Municipal Building, 50 Powell Rd., Springfiel­d. Refreshmen­ts will be served and a raffle will take place for the floral designs. Nonmembers can attend by paing a $5 admission at the door. WSFS donates more than $3K to Community Action Agency

The Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC) recently received a $3,500 donation from WSFS Bank. CAADC, which is celebratin­g its 40th Anniversar­y, will use this support to assist low to moderate income families and individual­s with case management services, financial literacy initiative­s, life skills training, employment training, housing and community and economic developmen­t.

CAADC has an overall mission to help families reach self-sufficienc­y and this grant will help needy families from Delaware County to reach that goal.

The Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. has been Delaware County’s designated antipovert­y agency since 1979. The non-profit agency provides a wide range of services aimed at encouragin­g self-sufficienc­y for low-income individual­s. For more informatio­n, visit www. caadc.org/.
