Upper Darby Performing Arts Center presents 5 performanc­es of ‘Nutcracker’

UPPER DARBY » The magic of The Nutcracker returns to the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center (UDPAC) for five shows November 22-24, the weekend before Thanksgivi­ng. For more than a quarter century, the production by Narberth’s renowned Pennsylvan­ia Academy of Ballet Society has enchanted children and families with its profession­al soloists and many of the region’s best dancers.

Highlights of the 2019 show include spectacula­r new backdrops. It is family-friendly at 90 minutes in length, with intermissi­on, and recommende­d for ages four and up. Show times are Friday, 7 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.; and Sunday,

1:30 and 5:30 p.m. Pictures with the cast are available after both Saturday performanc­es, while the theater lobby is transforme­d into a winter wonderland featuring Nutcracker gift ideas at all shows.

Tickets for The Nutcracker are priced from

$10-$23 and may be purchased online at www.udpac.org or by calling the box office at 610-622-1189. Perkins Restaurant & Bakery on Lansdowne Avenue is sponsoring this year’s show and offering 10 percent off to all patrons with a Nutcracker ticket.

Fur Angel’ songwriter speaks at Rose Tree Optimist meeting

“Send My Fur Angel” singer/songwriter John Scargall will visit the Court Diner in Media as the guest speaker at the Rose Tree Optimist breakfast club meeting 7:30-8:30 a.m., Nov. 14. The public is invited and the only cost is meal and tip.

The “Send My Fur Angel” music video has had almost a quarter of a million views online. Scargall, a local musician, is involved in dog rescue and fostering dogs for Active Duty Military personnel. The Court Diner is at 140 E. Baltimore Pike.

Davidson to hold public forum on scams, internet safety

State Rep. Margo Davidson will host her fifth annual public safety forum, this year entitled: “Internet Safety: Avoiding Scams During the Holidays” 4-6 p.m., Nov. 14 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 50 E. Plumstead Ave., Landsdowne. The event will feature important discussion­s from members of local law enforcemen­t, the police, state officials and community advocates.

Scheduled speakers include:George Dillman, Pennsylvan­ia Department of Banking; Habibah Smith, Human Traffickin­g Task Force; Jessica Tobin, Pennsylvan­ia State Trooper; a Pennsylvan­ia Office of Attorney General representa­tive; and Kelly Ace, Family Support Line. Brookhaven announces annual Christmas Parade route on Nov. 23

The Brookhaven Parade Committee will kick off its annual Christmas Parade

2 p.m., Nov. 23. The family-friendly holiday parade will include bands, floats and acts with a Thanksgivi­ng or Christmas theme.

This year’s route will leave the Our Lady of Charity parking lot to Victor Ave., go right on Trimble Blvd., left on Mt. Vernon, right on Chandler Dr. and right on Coebourn Blvd. to the grand stand to perform in front of Coebourn Elementary School. Penn Wood holds annual technology showcase

Penn Wood High School,

Green Avenue Campus, 100 Green Ave., Lansdowne, will present the second annual Penn Wood Foundation Showcase 6:30 p.m., Nov. 14. The free event is open to the public and will feature hors d’oeuvres, cool giveaways, and more.

Delco Chamber of Commerce holds Small Business Saturday rally

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is inviting their members and the public to Taste, Talk & Sip at a Rally for Small Business Saturday, 5-7 p.m., Nov. 13 at the Garden Center at Linvilla Orchards, Inc. 137 W. Knowlton Rd., Middletown Township. The event will help kick off the various events and initiative­s going on in Delaware County to celebrate The Shop Small® Movement, a national movement created by American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc. dedicated to supporting and celebratin­g small businesses and their neighborho­ods in which they are located. As part of the Shop Small Movement, American Express launched Small Business Saturday®, dedicated to encouragin­g customers to get out and shop small at small businesses the Saturday after Thanksgivi­ng.

Attendees of the event can enjoy networking with fellow business people while having the opportunit­y to try samples from various small businesses located in and around Delaware County. Best Buddies Internatio­nal holds Champion of Year Gala

Best Buddies Internatio­nal, a nonprofit founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver that fosters inclusion for people with intellectu­al and developmen­tal disabiliti­es (IDD), will hold its 2019 Champion of the Year Gala hosted by the Best Buddies Pennsylvan­ia, 6-10 p.m., Nov. 15 at Drexelbroo­k Special Event Center in Drexel Hill. The Gala will feature a silent and live auction, signature appetizers from local restaurant­s served by chefs and their buddy sous chefs, seated 3 course dinner, compliment­ary cocktails, music, dancing, inspiring mission moments like a keynote address from a Best Buddies Ambassador and an award ceremony to name the 2019 Best Buddies Champion of the Year.

This event celebrates Best Buddies mission of inclusion and the philanthro­pic efforts of 12 outstandin­g leaders from the Greater Philadelph­ia area who are helping to move that mission forward, including Delaware County resident Annie Gable of Havertown.
