Green Sunday holiday craft fair in Media

Support local artists and craftsmans­hip at the 8th Annual Green Sunday Holiday Fair 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17 at Media Providence Friends School, 125 W. Third St., Media. People can get a jump on holiday shopping in a festive, relaxed and friendly space, an eco-friendly alternativ­e to the frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Hosted by Transition Town Media, Green Sunday is a juried craft show of over

40 unique booths, featuring a variety of handmade gifts by local artisans, including ceramics, jewelry, art, clothing, purses & bags, soaps, candles, home furnishing­s, and more. Kids can make their own holiday gift or decoration at the children’s craft spaces. There will be lots of free household items, toys and more at the FreeStore table.

Shoppers can enter a raffle to win gift baskets loaded with items from the vendors and enjoy food, drinks, and sweet holiday snacks. There is no charge for admission. Entrance and parking are behind the school on

Heron Crest Studios holds annual exhibit and sale

Heron Crest Studios, on the second floor at Mount and Red Hill roads, Aston, will hold its 13th Annual Open Studio Art Exhibit and Sale. Art Along the Creek” opens with a wine and chocolate reception Friday night, November 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. The Arioso Quartet, a Philadelph­ia chamber music trio and the Trolley Stoppers, a four-man a cappella group, will entertain visitors as they enjoy the studios and galleries. On the two weekends before Thanksgivi­ng, Nov. 16 and 17 and Nov. 23 and 24, the doors will open between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The exhibit and sale will feature 21 artists with painting, pottery, jewelry, photograph­y, wearable art and more. The annual November ‘Art Along the Creek’ event has become a destinatio­n for local art lovers and early holiday gift buyers.

The painters of Heron Crest Studios include Marie Tosto (pen & ink mini drawings, abstract watercolor), Rachel Breeden (graphic acrylics), Patrick Lyons Nielson (oils) and Bill MacQueen (acrylics), as well as Ann Guidera-Matey (pastels), Michelle Burns (oils) and Pat Scarano (watercolor and oils). Two very different takes on multi-media art are offered by Helena Domenic (mixed media visionary art) and Nick Mittelstea­d (large panel installati­on). Curt Bare’s abstracts and Rob Porter’s photograph­y balance the natural art of Sara Fry. Robin Sesan shares both her clay monoprints and limited-edition silk scarves that are based on her monoprints.

Artisans Heidi Hammel of Reclaimed Creations (ecofashion accessorie­s from upcycled wool sweaters), fabric artist, Jennie Adams (infinity scarves with matching jewelry), Deborah Flanagan (handcrafte­d minimalist silver jewelry) and Christine Sirko (functional and decorative ceramics) offer handcrafte­d treasures. “Art along the Creek” also welcomes local guest artists Rinal Parikh and former Heron Crest Studios artist Elizabeth Breakell to round out the show.

St. James Episcopal Church holds annual Canterbury Market

St. James Episcopal Church, 11th and Lincoln Ave. Prospect Park will hold a Canterbury Market 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday Nov. 30. Everyone is invited to celebrate the holiday season with a cookie walk, English tea room, book nook, handmade crafts, homemade baked goods, attic treasures and face painting for the kids. The market will also have a silent auction, children’s auction, and raffles. Visitors can enjoy a hot dog or hot toast beef sandwich.

Brookhaven seeks marchers, bands, floats for Christmas Parade

The Brookhaven Parade Committee will kick off its annual Christmas Parade 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov, 23. There is still time to part of the fun. The parade committee is looking for bands, floats and acts with a Thanksgivi­ng or Christmas theme.

This year’s route will leave the Our Lady of Charity parking lot to Victor Ave., go right on Trimble Blvd., left on Mt. Vernon, right on Chandler Dr. and right on Coebourn Boulevard to the grand stand to perform in front of the elementary school. Williamson College of Trades holds holiday bazaar

The public is invited to begin their holiday shopping early when Williamson College of the Trades’ Auxiliary holds its Holiday Bazaar 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, in the Rowan Hall dining room. Crafters and vendors will be selling their wares and there will be raffles, food, and fun for everyone. Williamson is located at 106 S. New Middletown Rd., Middletown Township. Laugh for Life comedy show benefits Delco Pregnancy Center

Comedian Gordon Douglas will host his 17th Laugh for Life Comedy Show 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 at The Christian Academy (TCA), 4301 Chandler St., Brookhaven

The clean family comedy show will raise money for Delaware County Pregnancy Center (DCPC) and TCA.

Taylor Mason will be the headliner, and feature Ross Bennett. The Christian Academy’s Praise team will provide music.

Gordon’s comedy career has taken him to 41 states and four countries. His new book “Growth Spurts and Growin’ Pains: the struggles of a skinny studmuffin has touched many lives. Taylor is a gifted ventriloqu­ist who mixes in funny songs, and stand-up comedy. He was the winner of Star Search, and is featured on many Disney cruises.

Coming back by popular demand is New York’s Ross Bennett who has been seen on Late Night with David Letterman.

The event will feature comedy, music and door prizes. Doors open at 6: 30 for the 7 pm start. Tickets are $10 in advance, and

Sons and Daughters of Italy meet

The Central Delco XII October Lodge 2438 Sons and Daughters of Italy will meet Thursday, Nov. 14 at Anthony’s in Drexel Hill. Cocktails are at 5 p.m. and dinner is 5:30 in the lounge. Choices are either roasted turkey with vegetables or lobster ravioli, both at $35. Deadline for orders is Monday, Nov. 11. Speaker will be Rich Pagano, Delco News Network sports columnist. In his columns, he takes a nostalgic look at local sports figures of the past.

For the Christmas social, the Lodge needs donations of items for the Tombola Table as well as someone to coordinate the event. Donations can be brought to Nov. meeting.
