Eastern tops Cabrini in Battle of Eagle Road

The Battle of Eagle Road went Eastern’s way for the second year in a row.

Michael Bowlers dropped in 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds to help the Eagles hold off cross-street rival Cabrini in men’s basketball action Tuesday night, 67-57.

Draig Ruff had 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and William Blett added 14 points and nine rebounds for Eastern.

Voshon Mack led Cabrini with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Keith Blassingal­e was the only other Cavalier in double figures with 12 points. NEUMANN 85, LANCASTER BIBLE 74 >> Nasir Cassel, Haneef Vaughn and

Anthony Mitchell combined for 45 points in the second half to help the Knights (2-0) erase a 41-34 halftime deficit.

Cassel had 19 of his game-high 24 points in the second half. Vaughn netted 16 of his 22 and Mitchell 10 of his 20 after the break to spark the comeback.

21 points, six rebounds, four steals and four assists to pace the Mechanics to their first win.

Ridley grad John Mastella (16 points), Nazmir Goldston (16) and Penn Wood alum Vontagoe Donzo

(14 points, 17 rebounds) also came up big for Williamson (1-5).

Women’s Basketball

Anna-Sophia Capizzi’s career performanc­e spurred Haverford College to a 65-57 season-opening victory over Immaculata.

The senior guard posted career-highs in points (27), rebounds (eight) and steals (four). Capizzi went 4-for-6 from 3-point distance and 7-for-8 at the free-throw line.

Julianna Clark tossed in 11 points off the bench for the Fords, who used a 12-0 run in the second quarter to help build a 10-point lead at halftime.

CABRINI 61, EASTERN 54 >> Lexi Edwards scored 18 points as the Cavaliers (1-0) opened the 2019-20 campaign with a win over their nextdoor neighbors.

Katie Rodriguez notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Meghan Matthews contribute­d 12 points and two blocks.

Minika Glenn (15 points), Da’Naziah Brown (11), Jaelyn Harris (11) and Viki Kneis (10) all scored in double-digits for the Eagles (0-1) ALBRIGHT 87, NEUMANN 38 >> The Knights (0-1) were outscored 34-8 in the opening quarter, committed 25 turnovers and shot a paltry 26.9 percent (14-for-52) from the floor. Terea Hunt had team highs in points (10) and rebounds (seven), while Shaylah Green chipped in with nine points.
