Brookhaven cops seek couple who stole elderly cat
BROOKHAVEN » Holy cat-napping, Batman!
Police are looking for two people who allegedly stole a senior cat - named Batman from an animal shelter inside a PetSmart last week.
The 10-year-old, 14-pound black male cat named Batman was taken from the Forgotten Cats Adoption Center inside the PetSmart at 5023 Edgmont Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. Nov. 7, according to police who have posted surveillance photos of the suspects on Facebook.
Both suspects are Caucasian and estimated to be in their mid-20s. The woman has brown or reddish hair and the man has strawberry blond hair. Both are thin and of average to tall height, and were last seen driving a Mini Cooper with white stripes, according to surveillance photos.
“We have not received a SINGLE TIP on his whereabouts,” according to a post on the Forgotten Cats Facebook page Tuesday. “Someone has to know something! His story has been covered by many news outlets and we greatly appreciate the community’s support and concern!”
Batman has early chronic kidney disease that requires a special diet and medication, according to the shelter. Police said Batman has a shaved spot on his neck due to recent blood work.
Forgotten Cats said Batman does not have a winter coat to protect against the cold and his condition will worsen without proper care. Dehydration is a very real concern, according to the shelter, which is offering a $2,100 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The shelter has also indicated that it will not press charges if Batman is returned to the PetSmart, no questions asked.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Brookhaven police at 610-876-6142 or Forgotten Cats at 302-540-3044. Tipsters may also email the shelter at info@forgottencats.org. All tips will remain anonymous, the shelter said.
