UNIONDALE, N.Y. >> Anthony Beauvillier scored twice, Derick Brassard had a goal and two assists, and the streaking New York Islanders held off the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 Wednesday night.

Semyon Varlamov made 23 saves and the Islanders earned a point for the 13th straight game — a span including 12 victories and one overtime loss. Mathew Barzal also had a goal and an assist.

Kasperi Kapanen, William Nylander, Justin Holl and John Tavares scored for Toronto in its third straight loss. Frederik Andersen had 25 saves in the Maple Leafs’ second game since losing Mitchell Marner for at least four weeks due to a high-ankle sprain.

Beauvillier scored his second of the night late in the second period when he jammed a backhander past Andersen. The play started when Beauvillier forced Toronto forward Alexander Kerfoot to turn the puck over behind Andersen. Brassard and Brock Nelson assisted.

Brassard hammered a one-timer at 9:07 of the third to give New York a 4-2 lead. Barzal and Ryan Pulock assisted on the play. SENATORS 4, DEVILS 2 >> Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored a hat track, including the game-winning goal with 2:01 to play, and Ottawa rallied in the third period to beat New Jersey.

Mark Borowiechi tied the game with 6:30 to go in regulation, and Pageau got the gamewinner when he put the rebound of a shot off the post by Nick Paul into an open net. He finished off his first regular-season hat trick with 26 seconds left with a shot into an empty net.

Pageau has eight goals in his games.

Craig Anderson made 21 saves for Ottawa, including a breakaway stop on Taylor Hall midway through the third period with the Devils ahead 2-1.

Will Butcher and Wayne Simmonds scored for New Jersey, which returned from a five-game road trip. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 21 shots. last six

Luongo back with Panthers as a special adviser

Roberto Luongo retired from the Florida Panthers. He just never left. And now the goaltender is officially part of the franchise again.

Florida’s all-time leader in wins and shutouts has agreed to become a special adviser to general manager Dale Tallon, a move that has been in the works for some time and was formally announced Wednesday.

His hiring was no surprise: Luongo has been a regular fixture at games with the Florida front-office brain trust this season, only now wearing suits instead of skates.
