Dems don’t have impeachable case
To the Times:
One thing that the impeachment inquiry to remove President Trump from office is that it exposes the corruption of the swamp in Washington.
So far, Democrats have not validated the impeachment by exposing one crime or impeachable offense. It’s been basically that witnesses in the intelligence community, State Department, and even the Pentagon were “concerned” by Trump’s and Rudy Giuliani’s foreign policy with regard to the Ukraine – and that they should run the country.
Hillary Clinton paid a foreign national, Christopher Steele, to create a dossier containing dirt on Trump. She paid Alexandra Chalupa to dig up dirt on Paul Manafort in the Ukraine, and the Ukraine government admitted interfering with the 2016 election to favor her. There were no “concerns” in these officials about that.
A few star witnesses testified as to what they heard second- or thirdhand about the phone call between Trump and President Zelensky where Trump asked Zelensky to look into the Biden affair and Ukraine’s interference in the 2016 election.
Democrats charge Trump with asking Zelensky to “dig up dirt” or even “make up dirt” on Biden, but there is no supporting evidence of that. They charged him with a “quid pro quo,” but even if there was one, so what? Biden is on video boasting of extorting the Ukraine. If Biden was involved in corruption in the Ukraine, shouldn’t we know about it? Why should we not investigate Ukraine’s interference with the election?
Bottom line: None of this is a crime or even an impeachable offense. It’s the president’s duty. These bureaucrats, diplomats, ambassadors and entrenched long-term government people think that they – not the president – should run the country. The deep state doesn’t like Trump derailing their corrupt gravy train, so they are impeaching him. That’s their whole case.
