Temple University is on the verge of signing two of Delaware County’s most talented athletes.

Haverford High’s Trey Blair, the 2019 Daily Times Player of the Year, and The Haverford School’s Daiyaan Hawkins are expected to make their commitments official on national signing day Wednesday.

The Cherry & White are gaining a pair of elite players capable of excelling at multiple positions.

Blair led Haverford High to its first two District 1 playoff victories in program history, advancing to the Class 6A semifinals. He led the county with more than 2,100 rushing yards and passed for better than 1,100 yards. He accrued 40 touchdowns (27 run, 13 pass) and set the school record for career rushing yardage. Temple recruited him as defensive back. In high school, Blaur played shutdown defense in the secondary and amassed 14 interceptions, a program record.

Blair de-committed from Buffalo last Thursday and shortly thereafter announced via Twitter that he had committed to Temple.

“Temple came around after the season was over and I visited. Lovely campus, it felt like a good fit for me. I looked at their majors. They have a lot of majors that I’m interested in,” Blair told the Daily Times last week. “Their coaching staff was awesome. It felt kind of like home there. After the visit it wasn’t a hard decision at all.”

Hawkins played a vital role in helping The Haverford School to a second-place finish in the Inter-Ac League.

As an athlete, he ran for more than 400 yards with five touchdowns and made

11 catches for 141 yards and a score. He also had two interceptions, including a pick-6. Hawkins was a second team All-Delco and first team AllInter-Ac League.

“I want to thank my family, my mom and dad for everything they’ve done for me, from the sacrfices till now, they were always supporting me and never not once stop believing in me,” Hawkins posted on Twitter Monday. “I want to thank coach (Mike) Murphy … and the Haverford community and friends for everything you’ve done for me and the things you’ve all taught me on how to become a man and a better football player.”

Episcopal Academy AllDelco Maurcus McDaniel, who guided the Churchmen to the Inter-Ac championship, will sign with University of Penn. McDaniel was named Inter-Ac MVP this season. The quarterback was the second-leading rusher in Delco (behind only Blair) and the top passer in Delco, based on quarterback rating (NCAA formula). He threw for nearly

1,300 yards with 15 touchdowns in a memorable senior season.

“It has always been a dream of mine to be able to suit up as a D1 football player behind a fantastic group of coaches and a community who wants to win,” McDaniel tweeted on Sunday. “That’s all due to how the (Episcopal Academy) community has shown me love, respect and shaped me as a student-athlete.”

Radnor tight end Cameron Williams announced his commitment to Penn in July. Radnor senior lineman Pat Boujoukos will take his talents to Wesleyan University
