Upper Darby swims by Haven for first time in 20 years

Upper Darby boys swimming enjoyed its first win against Strath Haven in the 21st century.

The Royals defeated the Panthers, 104-79, the first time in 20 years.

Kevyn Daly was victorious in the

50 free, 100 free and 400 free relay. Connor Hunt touched the wall first in the 200 free and anchored both the 200 free relay and 400 free relay.

Ethan Roberts (100 back), Alex Ivanovich (500 free) and Than Thomas (100 breast) led the way for Haven.

RIDLEY 99, HARRITON 77 >> Alex Boeckx continues to pad his outstandin­g high school resume.

The All-Delco set the Ridley team and pool records in the 100 butterfly, finishing first in 52.44 seconds.

Boeckx also was victorious in the

50 free and 200 medley relay alongside Eric Tanzosh, Mario Costa and Wyatt Shanks. Costa took first place in diving, while Shanks was triumphant in the 100 backstroke.

In the Inter-Ac League: EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 100, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 84 >> Jack Christian

swam to first-place finishes in the 50 free and 100 back for the Churchmen. Ben Wesley was a double-winner in the 200 IM and 100 free.

Others winners for EA included Will Hopkins (diving) and Cole Whitsett (100 fly).

Girls Swimming

Hannah Smith and Grace Reagan paced Ridley to a 96-89 win over Harriton.

Smith was victorious in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, while Reagan bested the competitio­n in the 100 free and led off the Green Raiders’ winning 200 free relay.

654 >> The Panthers were led by Sophie Bergstorm, who was a quadruple winner in the 200 medley relay,

400 free relay, 200 individual medley and 200 freestyle.

Mia Yancey was a triple-winner in the 50 free, 200 medley relay and

400 free relay.

In the Inter-Ac League: EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 109, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 75 >> Riley Pujadas claimed first place in the 200 IM and 100 back to help the Churchwome­n past the Patriots. Emma Lunn (200 free), Kat Harrar (diving), Chelsey Liu (100 fly) and Jovanna Sekulic (100 breast) all won one event.

Boys Basketball

Tairi Ketner had a team-high

17 points and John Camden had

12 points including a pair of triples as Archbishop Carroll held off West Catholic, 63-60, in its Catholic League opener.

With 10 seconds remaining, the Burrs had five opportunit­ies to tie the game but could not convert. A final half-court heave at the buzzer also did not fall. Dean ColemanNew­some also had 12 points, and Anquan Hill added 11 points for the undefeated Patriots (4-0, 1-0).

Also in the Catholic League: CARDINAL O’HARA 70, LA SALLE 62 >> Anthony Purnell and Tre Dinkins poured in 19 points each, and Kevin Reeves was the third scorer with 13 points as the Lions led by

19 at the break.

In the Bicentenni­al League: CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 96, FAITH CHRISTIAN 56 >> Grant Sareyka tallied 24 points and six assists, and Isaiah Mitchell poured in 14 points and six assists of his own for the Crusaders, who hit six 3-pointers and shot 17-for-24 from the freethrow line.

In the Ches-Mont League: GREAT VALLEY 57, SUN VALLEY 38 >> Nick Giannakopo­ulos had 19 points including shooting 5-for-7 from the line, and Dom Valente had seven points for the Vanguards in the losing effort.

In nonleague action:

READING 74, CHESTER 70 >> With 11 seconds left, Karell Watkins (14 points) had his potential game-tying shot blocked and a jump ball was called, which gave possession back to the Red Knights who sealed the game at the foul line.

Watkins had eight in the fourth quarter, and Akeem Taylor had 10 of his 14 points in the final frame for the Clippers (3-1).

PENN WOOD 48, DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 47 >> Desman Johnson converted the game-winning basket with 20 seconds left to play, and Shamir Banes had 11 points for the Patriots (2-2).

Downingtow­n East had a chance to win the game but the shot did not fall.

DELCO CHRISTIAN 73, COLLEGIUM CHARTER 56 >> Jackson Piotrowski erupted for 26 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks, while Obinna Nwobodo had eight points and 10 boards for the Knights (3-2), who scored 27 points in the second quarter to blow things open. HAVERFORD SCHOOL 54, GEORGE SCHOOL 45 >> Tyler Seward had a season-high 24 points, including 13 in the second half, and Matt McKenna chipped in eight as the Fords (5-2) took an eight-point advantage into the locker room at halftime and never gave up the lead. DOCK MENNONITE 52, CHESTER CHARTER SA 51 >> The game was tied at 51 with 6.5 seconds remaining but Dock Mennonite was able to win it at the foul line. Davon Stovall (four points) had a last chance opportunit­y but his heave was off the mark.

Bruce Rogers had 14 points, seven rebounds (three offensive), two steals and a block. Davon White had 12 points and Damir Baez added nine points, six boards and two steals for CCSA (3-2).
