Peters records rare triple-double for Widener
Triple-doubles may be common in the NBA but are a rarity on the Division III level, which is what made Jared Peters’ performance in Widener’s 82-68 romp over Hood on Sunday so special.
The 6-2 sophomore guard became just the 15th player in Division III to accomplish that feat this season when he paired 16 points with 14 rebounds and 10 assists. It’s the first time a Widener player had a triple-double since Ryan McMahon turned the trick in 2018.
Connor Laverty tied a career-high with 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Widener (14-2, 7-0 MAC Commonwealth) extended its winning streak to four games. Steven Matlack (13) and Elijah Boyd (11) all reached double digits for the Pride.
MCDANIEL 77, HAVERFORD
69 >> Jesse Turkson had 14 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double in five games, but that could not keep the Fords (11-4, 6-2 Centennial) from falling for the second straight game. Joe Wujciak led Haverford with
15 points, and Nate Torres pitched in with 10 points.
Women’s Basketball
Widener turned to its defense to get back on the winning track with a 77-56 romp over Hood. The Pride (13-3,
5-2 MAC Commonwealth) forced 23 turnovers and held Hood to 39 percent shooting overall and 10 percent from
3-point range.
Devon Rimmer paced the offense with 22 points, while Kyra Schenk added 14. DREXEL 63, DELAWARE 59 >> The Dragons (11-6, 4-1 CAA) shot 6-for-8 from the free throw line in overtime to hold off the Blue Hens and extend their winning streak to four games.
Bailey Greenberg scored
26 points to move into seventh place on the all-time scoring list with 1,563 points. Mariah Leonard and Niki Metzel chipped in with nine points each.
LA SALLE 67, ST. BONAVENTURE 61 >> The Explorers (414, 1-4 Atlantic 10) scored the final eight points to snap a 10-game losing streak. Kayla Spruill’s layup with
1:06 left put La Salle up for good. Spruill finished with
15 points, Claire Jacobs led the way with 16 and Jordon Lewis added 11 points. WICHITA STATE 72, TEMPLE
