Applications will be accepted through 6 p.m. to fill the unexpired terms of the District 7 council seat and the treasurer’s position after recent vacancies due to promotions recommended by Mayor Barbarann Keffer and approved by council.

Former District 7 Councilwoman Sekela Coles was promoted earlier this month to serve as the township director of parking enforcement, leaving a vacancy on the 11-person council. This term expires the first Monday of January 2022 and the person may run for a full four-year term in the November 2021 municipal elections.

Anyone interested in filling this position must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the 7th District for at least one year. Resumes and/or letters of interest may be sent to council@ upperdarby.org.

After Albert Scott was promoted to director of administrative services he, too, left an almost two-year remainder in his term in the treasurer’s office. Anyone interested in filling this position must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the township for at least one year. Resumes and/or letters of interest may be sent to council@upperdarby.org. The appointee may run for a full four-year term in the November 2021 municipal elections.

The candidates for these positions will be vetted before council approves someone next month.

Four new advisory committees to guide Keffer, a Democrat, as she works to transform the township with her party’s first majority rule in government are also seeking applicants.

Residents are asked to submit their resumes and/ or letters of consideration by 5 p.m. Friday to UDTransition@gmail.com for consideration to join one of the following advisory committees:

Vacancy committee: The vacancy committee will advise on how to fill vacancies in a number of township boards, commissions and advisory groups. A number of board and commission appointments require approval of council.

Communications committee: This committee

will help create a comprehensive communication strategy for a township public access channel, website, social media presence and beyond.

Recreation committee: To create new possibilities of recreational activities for people of all ages, to advocate for the beautification of parks and to develop walking and biking trails throughout the township.
