Applicants needed for to fill U.D. vacancies, committees
UPPER DARBY » Today is the deadline for interested persons to fill a number of positions and to potentially be appointed to new committees in Upper Darby.
Applications will be accepted through 6 p.m. to fill the unexpired terms of the District 7 council seat and the treasurer’s position after recent vacancies due to promotions recommended by Mayor Barbarann Keffer and approved by council.
Former District 7 Councilwoman Sekela Coles was promoted earlier this month to serve as the township director of parking enforcement, leaving a vacancy on the 11-person council. This term expires the first Monday of January 2022 and the person may run for a full four-year term in the November 2021 municipal elections.
Anyone interested in filling this position must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the 7th District for at least one year. Resumes and/or letters of interest may be sent to council@ upperdarby.org.
After Albert Scott was promoted to director of administrative services he, too, left an almost two-year remainder in his term in the treasurer’s office. Anyone interested in filling this position must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the township for at least one year. The candidates for these positions will be vetted before council approves someone next month.
Four new advisory committees to guide Keffer, a Democrat, as she works to transform the township with her party’s first majority rule in government are also seeking applicants.
Residents are asked to submit their resumes and/ or letters of consideration by 5 p.m. Friday to UDTransition@gmail.com for consideration to join one of the following advisory committees:
Planning committee: This committee will advise on upcoming land developments, the zoning code and the township’s Home Rule Charter to monitor progress on its comprehensive plan.
Vacancy committee: The vacancy committee will advise on how to fill vacancies in a number of township boards, commissions and advisory groups. A number of board and commission appointments require approval of council.
Communications committee: This committee
will help create a comprehensive communication strategy for a township public access channel, website, social media presence and beyond.
Recreation committee: To create new possibilities of recreational activities for people of all ages, to advocate for the beautification of parks and to develop walking and biking trails throughout the township.
All appointments will be made by council at a Feb .5 meeting at 7:45 p.m. in council chambers of the municipal building.
