Mayock’s putback a winner for St. Joseph’s

Katie Mayock was in the right place for Saint Joseph’s Thursday.

The sophomore forward from Conestoga grabbed an offensive rebound and hit a put back as time expired to give the Hawks a 61-60 victory over St. Bonaventur­e in Atlantic 10 women’s basketball action. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Hawks (8-10, 2-4 A-10).

Mayock finished with eight points and five rebounds. Lula Roig and Gabby Smalls led SJU with 10 points each. Roig also grabbed six rebounds and handed out three assists. Mary Sheehan (Cardinal O’Hara All-Delco), Kelly Jekot, Nailah Delinois chipped in with eight points each.

RICHMOND 63, LA SALLE 61 >> The Explorers cut a 14-point deficit to one and had a chance to win it, but Claire Jacobs’ shot with one second left was off the mark.

Shalina Miller blocked two shots to become the career leader with 153 rejections. She also had eight rebounds and four points. Kayla Spruill led La Salle (712, 1-5 A-10) with 18 points and nine rebounds. Kate Hill and Keja King added nine points each.

TEMPLE 76, PENN 72 >> Lena Niang sank a pair of free throws with 1:39 left to break a 70-70 deadlock and give the Owls the lead for good. Mia Davis hit a pair of layups in the final 63 seconds to seal the victory that gave Temple a share of the Big 5 title with Villanova.

Davis led the Owls (127, 3-1 Big 5) with 20 points and seven rebounds. Ashley Jones (17), Marissa Mackins

(14) and Alexa Williamson

(12) also reach double figures.

Eleah Parker had 17 points and 13 rebounds, Kendall Grasella added 15 points and seven assists and Tori Crawford chipped in with 11 points for the Quakers (10-4 , 2-2).

Men’s Basketball

A slow start doomed Drexel in an 85-52 loss to

Northeaste­rn.

The Huskies went on a

16-0 run after Sam Green hit a 3-pointer to open the scoring. That advantage grew to 49-17 at halftime. Jordan Roland led Northeaste­rn with a game-high

26 points.

James Butler paced Drexel with 16 points and eight rebounds. Coletran Washington pitched in with

11 points.
