Watkins helps Chester pull away

Karell Watkins scored

10 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter as Chester pulled away late to close out Del Val League rival Penn Wood, 76-65, Thursday night.

Akeem Taylor had 18 points and Fareed Burton Jr. added 10 for the Clippers, who exploded for 30 points in the final eight minutes.

Shamir Baynes led the Patriots (8-7, 2-3) with 28 points including three

3-pointers and Jerry Flynn had 11 points. Desman Johnson Jr. chipped in 10 points including eight in the final quarter for Penn Wood, who led 15-13 after the first period.

Also in the Del Val: CHICHESTER 59, ACADEMY PARK 47 >> Andrew Monroe posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds while Jasir Shaw had 10 of his 20 points in the third quarter to help the Eagles (7-10, 2-3) pull away.

Josh Hankins had 10 points and seven steals and Paris Blackwell had 11 points and four blocks for Chichester.

Derrick Northern and Tahriq Marrero scored 12 points apiece and Jalen Cassidy had nine including a pair of treys for the Knights, who had six-point advantage to end the first.

In the Ches-Mont League:

SUN VALLEY 54, OXFORD 45 >> Billy Fisher poured in

23 points and shot 7-for-10 from the free-throw line as the Vanguards came back from a 10-point deficit at halftime. Fisher hit four three-pointers and Dom Valente (16 points) knocked down two from deep.

Kenny Lazer had six points for Sun Valley, who limited the Hornets to 12 points in the second half.

Girls Basketball

Madison Diehl poured in 24 points to lead Interboro to a 51-43 nonleague victory over Springfiel­d (Montco).

The senior guard was 10for-12 at the foul line. Interboro outscored the host Spartans in the fourth quarter, 19-11.

Khamani Jackson added

13 points, four assists and four steals for the Bucs. Aniya Boland produced seven points, five steals and three blocks.

In the Del Val League: PENN WOOD 76, CHESTER 19 >> The Patriots romped the Clippers behind an outstandin­g all-around game by LaShonda Smith, who amassed 24 points, eight steals and six assists.

Racquel Curry, and Joshelyn Carter each contribute­d 10 points. Xenia Gillis had nine points and Jada Hutt ended with eight points, 10 boards and six steals.

ACADEMY PARK 54, CHICHESTER 32 >> Sierra Thomas hit four shots from 3-point distance and tallied a game-high 18 points for the Knights, who outscored the Eagles in the third period,

20-0. Gabrielle Jackson added 13 points and Lashay Jackson registered 10.

In the Ches-Mont League:

OXFORD 55, SUN VALLEY 39 >> Micaylah Heygood finished with 14 points and nine rebounds for the Vanguards. Aliceia Whitfield tossed in 13 points despite being plagued by foul trouble.

Cristina Fernandez paced the Hornets with a game-high 20 points.
