Brodeur helps Penn survive Harvard in OT

AJ Brodeur had 20 points, eight rebounds and assists as Penn narrowly defeated Harvard 75-72 in overtime Friday night.

Ryan Betley had 17 points and seven rebounds for Penn (9-7, 1-2 Ivy League). Jordan Dingle and Devon Goodman each added 15 points.

Chris Lewis had 16 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for the Crimson (13-5, 2-1), whose eightgame winning streak ended. Justin Bassey added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Christian Juzang had 12 points and seven rebounds. Harvard

entered with the longest active overtime winning streak in Division I with 10.

Harvard’s Noah Kirkwood forced overtime with a fade-away jumper in the lane just before the buzzer. Bassey made a 3-pointer and was fouled with nine seconds left in OT but he missed the free throw. Harvard got the offensive rebound and had a good look at a tying 3-pointer but it rolled out.

Women’s Basketball

Villanova snagged a 66-64 overtime victory against St. John’s Friday night.

Maddy Siegrist led the Wildcats with 22 points and now leads the Big East in 20-point games with 11. Mary Gedaka scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for her 10th career double-double.

Villanova has defeated St. John’s in nine of the last 13 meetings and are 7-4 at home this year.

Siegrist sunk a jumper with three seconds remaining to tie the game at 56 apiece and to send the game into overtime.

It was a tight battle in the overtime period. With less than a minute to play, St. John’s Alissa Alston scored on a fastbreak to put her team within two. Gedaka responded with a free throw to put the team up three, and Siegrist hit one at the line to seal the win. Senior Bailey Greenberg scored a game-high 19 points and ranks sixth on Drexel’s all-time scoring list with

1,607 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds and dished five assists. Hannah Nihill (Cardinal O’Hara All-Delco) joined Greenberg in double figures with 11 points. Kate Connolly had nine points and seven rebounds. Aubree Brown finished with seven points, seven rebounds, and a game-high six assists.

HARVARD 58, PENN 51 >> Harvard picked up a victory courtesy of freshman Lola Mullaney’s 20-point night.

Penn was held to only a 17.0 percent shooting in the first half and

9.0 percent from beyond the arc.
