Seidman the hero as Haverford prevails in another squeaker

Ten times this season, Haverford has been involved in a boys basketball game decided by five points or fewer. During a sixgame slide, those coin-flip finishes seemed to constantly go against it.

But the Fords are changing their luck in the last two weeks.

Friday, it was John Seidman’s lay-up with 1.3 seconds left that made the difference in yet another nail-biter, a 38-37 win over Upper Darby for the Fords’ fifth straight win.

After Onyekachi Nzeh (13 points) put Upper Darby up with 10 seconds left, Seidman charged down the court to tie it and get fouled with 1.3 ticks left. He missed the free throw but tallied 17 points on the day.

John Schievert added 10 points for the Fords (11-8, 7-7). All seven of Haverford’s league losses are by five points or fewer; not among the close games, though, is the sweep of Lower Merion, by a combined 19 points.

AJ Tucker added nine points for the Royals (11-9, 6-8), who’ve dropped three straight.

In the Inter-Ac League: EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 53, HAVERFORD SCHOOL 44 >> Sam Malloy tallied his second-highest point total of the year with 12 points as the Churchmen swept the season series from their rivals.

Alex Capitano added 12 points for EA (10-13, 4-4) to halt a threegame slide.

Christian Clover led Haverford School (7-14, 2-6) with 14 points. Bernie Rogers added 10.

In the Catholic League: ARCHBISHOP WOOD 80, ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 61 >> Tairi Ketner scored 17 points, John Camden added 16 and Dean Coleman-Newsome supplied 11, but the Patriots fell.
