Brodeur scores 19 points, lifts Penn to win over Yale

PHILADELPH­IA >> AJ Brodeur posted

19 points, eight rebounds and five assists as Penn topped Yale 69-61 on Saturday night.

Max Martz had 12 points for Penn (13-8, 5-3 Ivy League). Devon Goodman added 10 points.

Paul Atkinson had 20 points and

10 rebounds for the Bulldogs (18-6,

6-2). Azar Swain added 13 points. Jordan Bruner had seven rebounds.

Penn faces Dartmouth on the road on Friday.

ST. LOUIS 84, LA SALLE 69 >> Javonte Perkins had 24 points and Jordan Goodwin combined 18 points with 11 rebounds as Saint Louis

(18-7, 7-5 Atlantic 10 Conference) defeated La Salle (11-13, 2-10).

Tay Weaver added 11 points and Hasahn French had 10 rebounds for Saint Louis.

Ayinde Hikim had 17 points for the Explorers. Scott Spencer added

17 points. Haverford School AllDelco Christian Ray had seven rebounds.

The Billikens improved to 2-0 against the Explorers on the season. Saint Louis defeated La Salle

77-76 on Jan. 29.

La Salle plays Fordham at home on Wednesday.

RHODE ISLAND 73, SAINT JOSEPH’S

55 >> Tyrese Martin had 13 points and 11 rebounds to lift Rhode Island

(19-6, 11-2 Atlantic 10) to a win over Saint Joseph’s (4-21, 0-12).

Fatts Russell had 18 points and six rebounds for Rhode Island, which earned its sixth straight home victory and bounced back from a loss to No. 6 Dayton that snapped a 10-game winning streak. Jeff Dowtin added 14 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Jacob Toppin had 12 points. Cyril Langevine had 11 rebounds to go with seven points.

Myles Douglas had 10 points for the Hawks, who have now lost seven straight games. Toliver Freeman added nine points and 13 rebounds. Lorenzo Edwards had eight rebounds.

The Rams improve to 2-0 against the Hawks on the season. Rhode Island defeated Saint Joseph’s 7161 on Jan. 15. Both teams face Davidson the next time they take the floor. Saint Joseph’s heads home to host the Wildcats on Tuesday. ELON 75, DREXEL 70 >> Marcus Sheffield II scored24 points as Elon (1018, 6-9 Colonial Athletic) edged Drexel (13-14, 6-8).

Hunter McIntosh had 18 points and six rebounds for the Phoenix and Hunter Woods added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Camren Wynter had 23 points and six assists for the Dragons. Mate Okros added 13 points and James Butler had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Drexel led 37-31 at the half but a three-point play and 3-pointer by Wood to open the second half quickly tied the game.

The Phoenix lead of five points inside the last two minutes was the biggest from that point. Sheffield II hit a 3-pointer at the 7:07 mark put Elon on top 59-57 at the Phoenix never tailed again. Butler’s dunk with four minutes to go pulled Drexel into a tie at 61.

Kris Wooten of Elon and Okros matched 3-pointers inside of two minutes to keep it a two-point game and after the Okros 3 the Phoenix went 6 of 7 from the line to hold on.
