Health care field left to fend for its self

- John Orsini, Springfield

To the Times:

We read stories about how, if we don’t practice social distancing and stay at home, one person could pass the virus to up to 400 people. Believe me, I get it and agree.

Then why is it that, due to shortages of masks and other PPE, that we allow and expect our frontline hospital health care workers, care for these unfortunate patients that are known to have the virus, while these same health care workers are expected to take care of these victims of COVID-19, while reusing the same disposable mask all day long and with inadequate supplies of other PPE. These workers who are exposed to the virus, then after their shift, go out in the public to go home and possibly infect

Our policy:

others? What about their wellbeing? What about possibly bringing the virus home to their families? By doing this, aren’t they being set up and enabled to do the exact thing we are trying to mitigate? It is unconscionable and hypocritical to put these highly dedicated, committed, caring professionals in harm’s way without properly protecting them!

These frontline super heroes deserve better. In conclusion something needs to be done to right this wrong. We can. I’ll afford the loss of any of these, nurses, doctors, EMT’s, patient transport people, the list goes on. Something needs to be done and done immediately.
